    D3 4.0 Petrol - Simpson Desert crossing

I am wondering whether has anyone done it? Is it advisable?
What would be the fuel consumption for stock d3 driven by an average skilled driver through French line (west to east)?
I estimated 200kg load + 2 adults + a fuel bladder minus all back seats if that helps.
Car is in good condition now and will be properly prepared (with ur advices).
    Thnx.

Can’t comment about the D3 fuel but I reckon it will do it easy.

    Shouldn't be an issue.
I did it a few years ago in a 6 cyl Series 3 ex-army petrol.and we had no issues and had fuel left over.
We had 2 tanks of 16 gals each plus 4 jerry cans. My brother in law had a V8 County - also fuel left over.
I have a V6 petrol D3 and if it was me, I'd plan on 25L per 100 km and watch you tyre pressures.
Curious about what fuel bladder you are going to use for the petrol.

    Thnx. this is encouraging.
Local ARB store mentioned a few options for the bladder but I wasn’t paying attention to details. Apparently they come in many shapes and sizes. This is something I will sort out later in this year once I cement my decision on d3.
My other concern with this car is the front recovery point. It being my wife’s car it does not have a bull bar.
    Thnx

Include this company in your research. I have one of their water bladders and it is excellent quality.
They also do custom sizes/shapes say for example to fit in the 3rd row seats cavity.

The factory recovery point is properly designed. You don't need to add one.

Just take it easy and you'll be fine. I'm travelling through with a stock D3 2.7 in June after a trip down the Canning - I can report back if you would like but... you'll be fine

Last time I was out there in 2015 - speed and weight were the cause of most problems observed. Just take your time.

Bladders and diesel aren't a problem. I'd be a tad stressed with a bladder of unleaded in the back!
    I'd go plastic jerry cans.

    Totally agree.
If you leave with the intention of getting it all done in 3 days, and seeing it all, you will be disappointed, and probably break something.

ALLOW PLENTY OF TIME to take it easy, explore, and enjoy. There is a lot to see out there, and even more, if you look!
7 days from Dalhousie to Birdsville would be great.
