    18in tyres for Disco4

Hi, Looking for people that have changed between any of the following tyre combinations: Desert Dueller 679, BFG KO2, Toyo ATR. After a shocker experience with Cooper AT3s I swapped to Duellers 3 years ago. They wear and grip well enough but they moan something awful - especially at lower speeds. Toyos have been recommended to me but I’ve had BFGs in the past - found them very strong and good off road, but not great on wet asphalt.

Also if you get the mods to move the thread to the D4 section you might get more responses.

My experience with the Bridgestones have been atrocious off-road. 4 trips in total, 2 punctures and all sidewalls with large cuts, splits and abrasions. One tyre a complete write off after only 3,000kms.

They are good on-road, good grip and quiet - but i'm regretting my decision as i have lost all confidence in them off road - and now on, as I'm wondering if the sidewall cuts will eventually lead to a blow out. And all this in the first 8,000 kms.

Tyre experience is very personal and down to individual conditions and to some extent luck. My D697 285s have done 40k, 20k on bad dirt at max rear axle weight (long range tank, rear wheel carrier and trailer tow ball weight), and a good share of sharp rocky tracks.

Nothing but a good experience. Only one puncture, and that was a tech screw around town. Expect another 20k from them. Plenty of sidewalk scuffs where the LT plies have held up. Perhaps I’ve been lucky and you not, who knows.

And I expect plenty of anecdotes from others anywhere in between our experiences.

I'm more than happy with the Mickey Thompson STZ 265/60R18's that have been on my D4 for approaching 80,000km at the moment. I'll get a bit more life out of them around town, but will need to replace them before the next long trip. Our son has the same tyres on his Amarok, and he's also very happy with them.

Replacements for me will be another set of the same.
    Cheers .........

    BFG

I had BFG KO1 on the D1 for years, 70,000km, not one puncture, snow, sand, dirt road touring, rock crawling , heaps of VHC and performed faultlessly. Even in mud and red clay they were reasonable
Just put KO2's on the D4, other than the price
So far on road is good, a bit of noise but not to bad for what they are, have done SA beaches and performed better than I did, first time off road in the D4 and oh how different, hated it to start with and got stuck to the eye balls at the drop of a hat. After a few days got used to all the electrickery and they ( and the car) were good, ran 12 PSI.
About to head from Melbourne to Broom, Kimberly, Kakadu and back down through the centre, will report back when we return in 2 months
Discovery 1 4.6, true trac front and rear, superior engineering arms, old tourer now bush toy
Discovery 4 3.0 HSE MY13 ECB Bull bar, winch, spot lights, aux fuel tank, Kaymar rear bar, duel wheel carriers, 18 tuff ant wheels 265/65/18 BFG KO2's for play

    Thumbs up

I have a HSE Discovery 4 with the green oval 18 inch wheels with BFG KO2 tyres and have found them to be brilliant both on wet bitumen and tracks. They are expensive but I rate them a 10/10 and would look at nothing else. I was also pleasantly surprised with their quietness. That is definitely my pick.

Went from K02’s to D697’s and love them. I found the K02’s tough but agricultural and noisy for such a refined car. Found the 697’s way quieter and for what I do, just as capable off road. Will definitely be buying them again.
