Engine light on in a D3 V8

Hi all,

So I’m up at Port Macquarie with the family from Sydney, when the engine light came on after about 50kms after filling up at Anna Bay yesterday, I pulled over and the engine light went off without having to turn the engine off, so I decided to keep going and we made it Port Macquarie without any further issues. Today we went exploring and checked out Mount Seaview campsite and on the way back on the Oxley highway the engine light flashed again. So I pulled over, shut off the engine and tried again after a few minutes but the engine light was still on and now it was idling rough.

I decided to call NRMA to at least get a reading, but when he did come he couldn’t connect to the computer with his reader. So after disconnecting the battery, we managed to get the engine light to go off, so I made the decision to drive the 40kms to PM with the NRMA trailing me, I had 3 young kids in the car and was getting desperate to get them to the apartment. As soon as I drove off the engine light came on again, but I kept going trying to drive as gently as possible. The NRMA guy commented that I may have picked up some bad fuel. I’m trying to get to the Land Rover dealer up here to have a look on Monday, yeah I’m desperate. So if it is bad fuel would it be advisable not to drive it any further at this stage and just get it to the dealer? Any ideas what I may be up for to get this rectified, I’m trying to knowledge up before I walk into the dealer

Any advise appreciated.

As a follow up Port Macquarie Land Rover were pretty good in terms of service but was not able to rectify the issue, it wasn’t bad fuel after all. A misfire in cylinder 1, spark plugs, coils and pressure test came back ok. It was towed to Graeme Cooper where it now sits being diagnosed.

So if I've got this right, the Land Rover dealer couldn't fix a Land Rover!?
I know Graeme Cooper is good, but it worries me when a dealer can't fix a problem.

Obviously their diagnostic gear for a D3 is out of date

Obviously a small dealership, they must've run out of parts to throw at the problem. Really, expecting a dealership to be able to correctly diagnose and repair a LR with a problem, is biting the apple a bit deep!

To be fair they didn’t have me booked in and needed more time, as they just fitted me in. They had it for a day and the following morning. But I had to get back to Sydney so I had to get it towed to where I was going.

To close this out. Issue was the injector in cylinder 1. Apparently not a common problem. With a replacement injector and new seals I have the D3 again
