    Not really.

Once you build a suitable restraint frame for a battery weighing 30kg; a proper one that will actually stop the battery killing somebody during an incident - you will have spent more than the battery up front.

You’ll then throw in a 100ah that’s likely good for 50% (Optima can go a bit lower) but irrelevant anyway because the Traxide is sharing some of the main reserve.

Show me a correctly rated and constructed mount for in the back, not just behind a cargo barrier - because the battery alone meets the entire rating of the barrier - and compare pricing then.

I’d be surprised if it’s not parity at minimum.

And for a decent trip, there’s really not that much space to spare Auxiliary Battery IssuesAuxiliary Battery Issues

Hi LuckyLes, I haven't looked up info relating to Orbital batteries for a few years now, and there does not seem to be much in the way of useful specs available.

The only specs I found were not very informative and related to there use as STOP/START batteries.

If you or anybody else has a link to more detailed specs, I would appreciate it.

From the info available, they are not being promoted as a deep cycle battery, just as a cranking battery and I am not sure what this may mean long term for them being used as a deep cycle battery.

    Hi Drivesafe,
The supplier told me that they were multi use as in Deep Cycle/Starting, which is probably a compromise in both directions, but it has done the job for me so far.
This was all I could come up with.

    I googled and received a few suppliers. 'Batteries Direct' (ORB34DC-48) had: $334; sealed; spiral bound AGM technology; vibration resistant; CCA 750; 158 L x 170 W x 203 H; 18.5 kg; 12 month warranty.
Other suppliers didn't seem to have prices.

    cheers

I ran Orbital blues in the Defender (Lara)...
Lower Ah rating than an Optima. About 5ah less iirc.

Had one go into melt down, replaced without question.

I wouldn’t do it now, I’d go SSB or FullRiver.. my D34 Yellows are not healthy - but that may just be from the poor Odyssey dragging them down.

So this happened to me yesterday, speaking of Yellowtops. Couple of weeks within 3 year warranty - will wait and see what the answer is tomorrow as to whether is covered.

+1 on the ssb battery, we have several now and in conjunction with a d34 optima it runs the fridge for significantly longer than similar size battery's on same setup on our other vehicles, not cheap though...
But I'm always reminded of a herbicide advert years ago,
    If it doesn't work...it isn't cheap

Apparently the negative post breaking off the battery is not considered a warrantable problem.

If i hadn't already replaced it with another yellowtop, I would be seriously looking for alternatives. At first the warranty was knocked back by Century sight unseen as any physical damage is not covered, but after i pressed the matter they picked it up and inspected with the same finding. They think that it could only happen through force or physical damage. Given the battery has been installed in-situ for the last 2.5 years, thats total BS but just shows how flaky these so called warranties are.
