    Exclamation LRD4 Tow Bar Rattle

    Hi,

Have a detatachable tow bar fitted, there is substantial movement in the detatchable arm when fitted. I see that this is a ‘common’ feature for many detatchable tow bars on various vehicles and there are some fixes (clamps mainly), however due to the unique design of the land rover fittings cant see one that suits.

Anyone come across a fix for this?

I had the same problem. When towing the trailer it doesn't bother me, but with the bike rack on it moved around too much. Cut a hard plastic "chock" & tapped it in with a hammer. Solid as now but can still be removed if required. Good luck. Interested to see what others have done.

The usual fix is to weld a nut on the lower corner of the receiver and put a bolt in the nut, and tighten it up.

    Anti Rattle clamp from Amazon

This is what I have used for past 8 years. Works well with the standard D4 hitch and works with 3.5 tonne van.
    I did two mods
    1. Welded a flat piece to the round bar so it nicely filled the gap between the hitch and hitch receiver at the top to prevent and back forward movement
    2. Welded a half ring extension on each end to hold the safety chains clear when doing tight turns.

I have the 2 and half inch model. It sits on the gap between the hitch and hitch receiver at the bottom.

As you're in NZ, I suspect you have the UK detachable tow bar and not an AU style hitch and receiver. Would you post a photo?

O.P. sent this photo as a PM, I'll attach it here. This is the familiar D3 "plough" and hitch set up.

    Suggestions above could work.
