So in theory how long should the compressor run for and how often? If one bag deflates will it drain the whole system of will the valves stop the system draining? ie the compressor has to top up the reservoir after the leaky bag deflates. Under normal operation i guess the compressor doesn't run often if there's no leaks? Maybe to top up after self levelling or something or height adjustment.

I hear mine run for about two to three seconds at startup. If it runs any other time (outside of raising the vehicle), I’ve never heard it.
If you have a leak I’d expect it to run for minutes at startup, which is typically about the units overheat time too.
