NEW MODEL Macnaught Lubemate 6.5L Waste Oil & Fluid Extractor Vacuum Pump L-OE6 | eBay
Hello everyone,
Can I ask if you the pumps you use are little 12V units (~$25) or a hand pump (~$45)?
Cheers,
RickO

No name at all on my pump but it's hand operated. So quick and easy I don't see any need for electrical assistance.

"I presume the pipes goes all the way to the bottom of the sump?" By that RR, do you mean the vehicle extractor pipe or the plastic pipes that come with the pump? If the latter, one will just fit over or in the vehicle pipe which it self goes right to the bottom of the sump.
I let it extract most out then let it sit a while then give a few more pumps and out comes a bit more.
Plus I always change the oil filter as well as does the mechanic. (DazzaTd5)

PS. Not sure what the stealers do but I suspect only the minimum necessary.
Just by chance I had to change the oil on my kids Xtrail and thought I would use the "sucker". All worked well with the tube suck right down the dipstick and pumped away until I was sucking air. I thought I'd check if any oil was left in the sump and was a little surprised to drain another 750ml.
I don't know if this is isolated to the Xtrail but was wondering if anyone has done this on a D4 to see the difference? I won't be doing it for another 10,000km but would like to know.

That’s the 64k question between the sump plug fraternity and the dipstick extraction club.
Does a small amount of residual oil and ‘possible’ sludge matter?
At the end of the day a dip stick is calibrated to take into fact the tube enters the sump somewhere on the side.
Take comfort that zillions of boats go the extraction method because the sump plug is so close to the hull there is no room to conventionally drain.
Gearbox double flush same principle with some residual oil although not carbon infused.
Way too many variables.
Does the sump slope fore or aft?
Was the vehicle on level ground?
Was the tube all the way in to the bottom of the sump?
Did you wait a while after it was sucking air to allow more oil to flow in?
Was the engine warmed before you did the job?
Did you take the filter off between vac and taking off sump plug?
Typically the variance for a D4 is 300ml for a sump versus extraction. Given its 6L I see it’s insignificant, especially with regular changes.

Before I did my first oil change I read that the refill amount was 5.9ltrs, but 6 came out. So a fraction under 6 went in. It seems that waiting for a bit more to drain down then a few more pumps is the way to go.
I do like clean oil in my vehicles.

I noted with the sump plug out and oil drained when you crack the seal on the oil filter another surge comes out so this is important not to miss for the sucker technique to add to what’s left. Crack filter before sucking and remove or loosen oil filler cap so there’s no vacuum.
