Discovery 4 3l SD wont start

Had the car serviced Friday, drove it home and parked it, did some cleaning after a Kimberly trip and today it wont start, thought it must be flat battery so chucked it on the charger for a couple of hours, battery now reads 12.6v all the dash lights up and it will lock and unlock but it wont turn over.
What to check first and how do I get the round gear nob out of park if it needs towing?

    Thanks in advance Matt

I would just keep the charger on and double check the terminal connections. Also check the earth connections on the inner guard. Give it a go after a couple of hours.

Il assume you haven't tried to jump start it yet.

In regards to getting out of gear; under the centre console cup holders there is a red tag. If you give that a pull, it will place the car in neutral. Under that is another plate, remove the two screws and there is the manual release cable for the park brake. I would try releasing it electrically before manually.

Thanks for the reply, have checked the battery terminals and all good, will leave the charger on all night and see what happens but with the battery at 12.6 I doubt its a battery issue unless it drops heaps when under load.
Worst case I will ring RACV and get them to load test the battery and if all else fails its back to the mechanic on a tray truck

No faults and working perfectly until it spent a day in the workshop

Might be the starter motor. Does it click? Mine suddenly didn't turn over at a Perth shopping centre one week after returning from a Cape York trip via Kununurra and we found that the starter motor was stuck and burnt out. That was back in 2012. It was smoking when my mechanic tried to start it and LR replaced the starter motor under warranty.

Not going to pull the trigger at the workshop yet, although there will be some discussion regarding the invoice, 7l engine oil and 5l diff oil, new air filter for $48 when I replaced the old one on the way home from the trip and it had only done 2000km.
Plus I had to suck 600ml of oil out of the engine so it didn't read overfull.
Time to get back into my own servicing me thinks.

    Would/could a starter be cactus at 60,000km? I should hope not !!!!

Still leaning toward battery but not sure given the voltage

Surely if there was a fault electrically it would fire a fault code or some description of a warning on the dash.

I was just wondering if it was a dealer up this way, as I am currently dealing with them to get our car fixed under warranty. They aren't in any particular hurry, yet they say it's common.

$48 for a new filter? Clearly not a genuine one, I was quoted $138 to have one changed during a service. I said no and they told me it could be detrimental to the health of the engine. I went to their parts department, got it at trade price and fitted it myself in the carpark before I went home. The one that came out wasnt even dusty. Yet, the next service after 6k of dirt, nothing was mentioned.

If the battery holds 12.6v and doesn't drop when trying to start, I don't think you have a battery problem. Could be the start switch, could be anything. If it's still under warranty I would be calling Land Rover Assist.

In the first instance they will get someone to come have a look, then take it to a dealership if can't rectify on the spot.

No dealer/stealer involved, all work done through a reputable indie, still need to speak with him re the latest service.
On the up side, RACV came out, tested battery OK terminals cleaned and checked OK, still wouldn't go, open all doors and close, lock car and let sit for a couple of moments to shut down, unlock and start as normal. What on earth...
Took it for a drive, no faults on the dash and all OK, park it at home, turn off and restart all OK.
Will see what happens over the next week or so, its either battery on its way out but no jump start required so probably not that, brake switch, is that an issue with a 2013 D4 or only D3's ? Or last thought could it be the start button playing up and is there a test or fault code it would throw up?

Diffs don’t even have 2 litres combined unless your talking the transfer case case as well and then still not 5l but two different types of oil.

No just the diffs and on the invoice 5l of Castrol axle EPX 80-90 plus D3 R/R sport t/case oil 1.5l .
Manager/owner is not in today and at this stage am giving the benefit of doubt and allowing for oil price and wrong quantities verse correct product and actual price, if that makes any sense.
And on a side note, holy crap the T/C oil is expensive...
