for my 2nd service I had my vehicle serviced at an "independent" supposedly "accredited" LR mechanic shop in Bentleigh East (Vic). Unbeknown to me these independents do not have access to the on line service register. As a result I am now having trouble trying to convince LR that the car was serviced correctly and that the car should still be covoured by warranty. Had I known this issue before the service or had I been told honestly by the mechanic I would not have had it serviced there, Now there is a gap in my service history. I guess as I expect to own the car a long time it might not be an issue, but given the sh**** service I got there I have no confidence in decent independents giving my car a complete history. Has anybody got any suggestions on how to over come this?
Thanks

Is not the service agent fault - have you kept your receipts etc - then you have a full service history. the service history is what has actualky been done to the car not what LR says - I would have thought companies would have learnt from the Ford experience with the ACCC and stopped abusing the system.

As Garry has said, if you have a receipt for the work done, then you have a service record, it just sits outside of LR's own system. The only question mark should be if the work was done to LR standards (genuine parts etc).
I think we have three options:
1) Let Land Rover service your vehicle and update their online service history records. (Yeah, right!)
2) Let independents service your vehicle and keep service record book yourself. (Print this one: https://topix.landrover.jlrext.com/t...ocument/111752 )
3) Let independents service your vehicle and get them to update the online service history records, per following from Land Rover -
"Should you have services carried out by an Independent Motor Trader your local Land Rover Retailer may also be able to add these to your Service History. Alternatively your Independent Motor Trader is able to register for access to TOPIx - our vehicle maintenance database. From there they may be able to request access to update the Online Servicing History on your behalf (*)(*) - Varies by market. Functionality not available in all markets."
*Some bull**** there, if an independent has a full subscription, then they can add service completed, its a crap system though as you can only add completed scheduled service and nothing additional.
*Over here in the wild West, I have never seen recorded services done by the *cough* stealers when I log in.
*Pay the money, roll the dice, take your chance with the stealers, you are clearly not happy with where you have just been.
*I keep detailed service records of customers new vehicles I service, when there is a question asked, I normally print out the WHOLE lot and take it down to the service dept and give it to the service manager personally (which always shuts them up).

And of genuine parts do not even have to be used - just those of a suitable standard. In a legal tussle it would be up to LR to show the parts were sub standard not the other way round.
This whole discussion does raise an interesting point - the law says the car does not have to be serviced by LR or use their parts just to a suitable standard HOWEVER LR (and most makers) will say the opposite and it often comes down to whether you have the energy to follow it all through - is simply easier to get the work done by LR during the warranty period rather than fight a war of attrition, though the ACCC does gave car companies in their sights.

I've had all my services (by date as I don't drive enough) done by the dealer while under warranty except for one mid year one (oil change etc.) which was done by an Indy. The dealer only puts the 12 month services into Topix and forgot one of those which I had corrected. That means all the 6 month services they did do not appear in Topix. When I asked about this they said that Topix only takes 12 month or corresponding mileage service details. From my point of view I would like to see the hard copy of documentation as proof of service if I was buying a car. I simply do, and intend to in future, keep the receipts and printouts when I have a car serviced until I sell the car. You've still got proof of service so there really isn't an issue.

While most manufacturers allow servicing by other parties, according to consumer affairs vic it is the owners responsibility to check this - see below.

Having said this, I would push them on the 'I can get my vehicle serviced by parties other than dealers' line which is mostly true. I think they are just looking for an out and pulling the wool over your eyes. They certainly can't claim for example that because your top radiator hose rubbed through due to factory misalignment, this was caused by getting it serviced elsewhere - they don't have a leg to stand on in this case IMO. Push them hard, they are all aresholes...
