I took them back out of Hi beam as the light up time was too long and if you needed hi beam light immediately it was not an option for a few seconds.

A lot of the issues are hearsay and rarely tested by formites who often rely on Mr Google for their "informed" opinion.

And a lot also look at what is around them in the real world not just forums, test and try all types, do some Google searching then make a decision.

If you take a standard (legal) globe, light pattern, there is a definite line where light is not emitted to the right.

I'd be careful about using LED or any other globe that does not comply with Australian Design Regulations.

I did check this with the Halogen bulbs in and the cutoff and light spread is the same for both, as i did the same test down my driveway. The difference seeing it in real life and via pictures are chalk and cheese. You weren't there when i took the pic and saw it, instead taking a swipe at me, based on pictures, which we all know don't represent actual light reflection, particularly as the green foliage is highly reflective. You also have no way of knowing how a standard (legal) globe performs down MY driveway. If you don't have real-time factual test data, don't assume.

I also swapped cars with my wife and drove head to head on several different road and the glare/reflection/cutoff was not obtrusive at all, nor have i had anyone flash me during the past week they have been installed.

    cheers

    No swipe at all

Sorry that you feel like l was taking a swipe at you Geof, that was not the intent.
l was simply pointing out what l thought l saw in your post, it was intended as advice only.

    Regards

    LED head light upgrade

STEDI (STEDI LED Light Bars | Australia) do plug and play LED light conversion kits for both the low beam and high beams, plus the driving lights. They are cheaper than the Autobarn versions, do not require any mods to fit.

They also include the CANBUS as standard (the Autobarn version charges 50-60 for htis as separate), and I believe are rated to IP6X waterproof.

From memory, the high beam kit is A$135, same for the low beam kit, and the driving / fog light kit with LED DRL's is A$178.

They do free delivery and have a 30 day money back no questions asked returns policy.

Thanks m8. It looks like the kit means the headlight is no longer waterproof.

Direct from the STEDI website [https://www.stedi.com.au/land-rover-discovery-range-rover-discovery4-defender-headlight-upgrade-conversion-kit.html]:

"We’ve moved away from active cooling (fan kits) and adopted passive cooling. Passive cooling not only substantially increases reliability, but the flexible cooling belts of our Copper Heads offer the ability to retain the use of the factory dust caps maintaining the water & dust resistance of the headlight housing. With lower profile than that of a fan cooled kit, compatibility and ease of install is also much wider. "

    Cheers,

    Eric

    Just a guess Peter.....

Your CCF would be selected to Bi-Xenon & Adaptive (whatever the term is in the CCF)? No not sure how many selections are made but you'd need a GAP tool to check ….. which I think you have? I think even standard Xenon have at least two selection requirements to change from Halogen.

Xenon pulse on start up to rapidly evaporate the crystals ….. you'll have noticed the flash when you first turn your lights on? Not sure how the LEDs would go with that pulse.

If you turn the Xenon selections off in the CCF (to halogen) you may not get the turning headlights anymore (I assume your headlights turn?) and the side lights may not come on. I guess you could experiment.

Then the final question is …. will the LEDs fit? Are adaptive headlights the same bulb as the standard Xenon?

If I had Xenon, I'm not sure I'd go to the trouble. If you think your Xenon are bad, try putting Halogen in your lights …. LOL!!!

Xenon bulbs also 'get tired' over time, so that may be a cause of your dissatisfaction with them.

I loved the Xenon in my old D4 …...

Are you referring to the possibility of replacing the high-beam fill-in halogen globes with LED globes?
