Yeah, it's an interesting policy. I have read the T&C, no modifications is a bit of a deal breaker, a roo bar could void the policy when really it's there to help, 18" wheels ditto. They do not go into any detail about where they will recover from, or won't for that matter so that's a bit grey and a lot of the $$$ allowed for events are a bit slim. Having said all that, if the recovery is truly from places you would expect the vehicle to be used, and I quote "And because it is Land Rover Assistance, help will also be provided if you become bogged or disabled on roads that only four-wheel drives can travel." then being the very capable vehicle we all know it is, the $180 is a good investment.

    It's got me thinking

RACQ Ultimate here. When I inquired I was told if it was on a map they would cover it. I haven't needed a remote recovery yet, even on the Simpson and Cape, so I'm still unclear how that actually works in practice.

    3 tonne limited assist

RACQ has a 3 tonne GVW limit for assistance, over that they provide only limited assistance for towing, etc. As D3/D4 have a GVW over 3 tonne, I wonder if anyone has come up against this restriction when seeking assistance. Or do the RACQ staff just treat the D3/D4 as another passenger vehicle?

I spoke to RACQ on the phone when I noticed this in the fine print in my policy, they said it definitely applied to my D3. Hearing the stories here, I wonder if it is somewhat discretionary?

That would exclude nearly all large 4WDs, but in fact, the general eligibility section of the T's&C's the weight limit for RACQ is 4 Tonnes! no note or * to indicate any clauses.

It's a poorly worded document and puts the onus on the customer to interpret and know what they mean.

I spoke at length with the RACQ and it boils down to the fact that some contract providers who are limited to 3 tonnes flatbed capacity.

This put us into this area

    • Limited Service Vehicle Limited Services apply where the vehicle is one or a combination of the following:
    • Gross Vehicle Mass (weight) 3.0 tonnes or greater
    • Length 5.5 metres or greater
    • Width 2.3 metres or greater
    • Height 2.0 metres or greater.

So much of this depends on where you break down.

Why this information is not put in the eligible section, as the height and weight is the biggest issue for most 4WDers.

I believe that the attached document is misleading. Terms and Conditions for Roadside Assistance - RACQ
