Not sure about your car specifically, however i have removed the TC from my D1 and had to pull it all down to fix a broken shaft.
Pulling it out was not easy. I ended up welding up a bracket that held the TC and then screwed to my jack.
I have 2 inches of lift and 33inch wheels and i could only just get the TC out while on jack. Smaller cars may have problems.
Everything about the TC is big and heavy.
If you make a good setup to hold the TC safely then i say go for it yourself man. Even if you get it out and do something wrong, take it to your mechanic while out and he will charge you heaps less to do the seal.
