The key thing you can’t forget. It’s not just any old oil, it’s “Special”.

Special or not I'll be using the LR recommended oil for all my underneath bits. A few bucks extra for oil that is right for the vehicle is OK as far as I'm concerned as it's cheap compared to the rebuild or replacement costs.
Actually I think the word "special" is a bit overdoing it as I was told recently while the vehicle was getting it's 40K service that it's engine oil was "special"..... turned out to be Penrite Enviro C4 + 5 - 30 and there ain't nothing special about it as Supercrap sell it to anyone.
All that was special was being charged 22 bucks a litre for it....... I've bought it in the past for half that price.
And guess where I won't be going for servicing in the future. Old and ugly I may be, but stupid I ain't.

I've been using the syncromax for the last 4 years in my D3s transfer case - pritty much the whole time I've owned it. No issues so far and I'll continue to use it unless something else comes on the market and is more readily available.

Well since I last looked for it places like sparesbox now stock it, so it’s far more readily available. Cool.

Have you done any tests Shane?

I was thinking last night that with the clutch plate torque transfer centre the FM's in an MTF wouldn't be ideal?
But if it works, it works.

Just to put a spanner in the works. I use Nulon syntrans in my ZF and transfer case. Used this for over 7 years on my 05 D3 and 3 years on my 09 D3 to date. Did a lot of research on this year's ago, never had a problem to date. The Nulon tub even states replacement for lifeguard 5 and 6

    Cheers

Of course I've done some samples royal purple list the shell spec that the oil is suitable for. But yes what you mention has crossed my mind, syncromax being a manual trans oil for boxes that specify an ATF it may still have some suitable FM left....

    Hahaha, I should've known better....

It all depends on what the clutch material is.
If it's a metal/metal plate Synchromax might be close to ideal.
