    Red Triangle

    Hi All,

    Car has been running fine (MY13.5 SE D4) and was services just before xmas. On the highway this morning I get the red Restricted Performance triangle appear, along with the spongy throttle and obvious performance issues. Tried a lock-car reset to no avail. Limped to a safe place to call LR assist and whilst on the phone I decide to restart the car .... which I had not locked (just turned the engine off).... and it started no issue with no warning lights and normal temps. Drove fine after that.

    Since I don't have a scan tool I took it to LR to check for fault codes. They stated they are really busy and may not get to it until tomorrow. Kinda miffed as I thought at least hey could take 5 to plug the box in and potentially get the car off their hands if its nothing ominous or permanent (glitch). What also miffed me was the service guy stating that he thought he knew what it was and it would be an easy but expensive fix. How the hell would he know what it is if the car isn't showing any abnormal signs other than the triangle event? I'm assuming lots of different faults can kick off the warning .... including just a glitch?

    I said to not worry until it's actually had a tech plug the tool in .... but it leaves me with a bad taste.

    I'm tempted to just go and get it and see if it faults again .... but worried I'll get stuck at some point.

    Suggest you take it elsewhere, if they're too busy to help then they're not worth your hard earned.

    The fact that the car restarted after a RP event indicates no major mechanical issue.

    The car tends to protect itself quite efficiently.

    You still need to get it checked out, but by someone who actually wants to help you.

    I’d bet a EGR valve on way out

    How do you grade that replacement in terms of ease and cost? Can any mechanic do it or at least a LR specialist Vs the incredibly high labour rates LR charge?

    If it's not too bad I'll wear the cost only because my car is already there but if it's a motsa .... :-(

    If they are similarly placed as in the 2.7 they aren't hard to replace, any mech should be able to do it. I would image it should only take 1hr to replace, part cost is 400-600 for a 2.7 or less from os.

    Fingers crossed it’s easy and simple.

    Best advice is to find a good Indy in Brisbane using this group’s input.

    Good News

    LR rang this morning and stated that there is a dodgy turbo hose.


    I'll get all the details when I pick the car up. Just over $300 fitted so not too bad in the big scheme of things. No cost would be better (as in nothing wrong found) but it would always be in the back of my mind that something may pop up at a most inopportune time.

    I'm sure an Indy/standard mechanic would do it cheaper but I'd have to pay LR for the diagnostics labour anyway, so in the end would probably cost more and add delay.

    Did you get them to do a road test after fitting the hose? Seems like the RP event is boost pressure related, a failed or loose turbo hose is just one aspect.

    Mine had turbo replaced (linkage had failed) as well as air control valve and turbo hose, and actuator solenoid all under warranty. FInally the intake plenum o ring ($13 item) had popped.

    I guess I'm saying that one error code can affect a whole array of issues, identifying them is helped by each code, but it just pays to do a thorough check

    Awesome ....

    They are getting the part tomorrow, so I don't know yet. They spent a while dicking with it so I hope they are right. Fingers crossed for tomorrow.
