Redarc Towpro Elite RECALL

I've posted this in another part of the forum, but as there are so many questions about towing here, I thought I'd repeat it.

REDARC Electronics is conducting a recall of the Tow-Pro Elite V2 Electric Trailer Brake Controller (Product code EBRH-ACCV2).
The recall applies only to units sold in Australia and New Zealand between 1 September 2018 and 21 January 2019 with serial numbers of the following format shown as an example 18110006030116 or 18101268-023, (located on the external packaging and on the main control unit.)
The reason for the recall is that the units in the affected range where the installation has not been carried out in accordance with the product manual, using dedicated wiring from a single battery supply, there is potential at any time for no trailer brake output indicated by a flashing yellow/red warning lamp. In which case the braking distance of the tow vehicle and trailer may be increased when towing.
“We are recalling these units as a precautionary measure in the interests of consumer safety,” said Anthony Kittel, Managing Director. “We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience and will replace the main control unit free of charge.”
Consumers with a Tow-Pro Elite V2 installed should check whether their particular unit is affected by verifying if the serial number of their installed product matches within a serial number of affected parts utilising the search function found below.

*If your S/N is in this range you need to use the search tool to verify if your unit is affected.

Affected consumers should then complete the appropriate contact form, or call 1800 733 272 or (08) 8322 4848 or email service@redarc.com.au to find the details of their nearest dealer/installer to change over the main control unit of the brake controller, free of charge.
In the meantime, consumers are advised not to use the trailer. If the unit has not yet been installed on a vehicle, consumers should contact the company to arrange the exchange of the unit for a free replacement.

So is the problem only if it was not wired according to instructions?

But only applies to a specific serial number range. Me thinks there is actually another issue...

It mentions units that have not been installed also need to be returned as well.....not following installation instructions wouldn’t trigger a re-call.

Strange, think there might be more to the story. Reading in other forums it appears Redarc have been engaging and ringing consumers.

Could be wrong but I believe it’s a requirement for all brake controllers to have it own circuit direct off the battery

I got curious and checked the instructions for my Tekonsha brake controller which say you must use the supplied harness for it to work properly. I wonder if people have been installing the Redarcs using dodgy wiring?

Reminds me of a problem with the fridge in our new camper throwing E1 error codes, indicating an unstable power supply. Our auto electrician said the 4mm wiring to the cigarette plug was too light. I got him to install 6mm wiring to an Anderson plug. I hope that fixes it.
I suspect novices like me in electrickery under estimate the need for top class wiring.
I can see how easy it would be to under estimate the amount of power drawn by a brake controller.

I'm happy to have seen this post here as it's the first I've seen of this recall and quite possibly I might be affected myself.
At the very least, this first post could stay with a link leading to the original post.
My thoughts only.

In my case with Tappatalk, it opens up on my subscribed pages which for me is only on the D3/4. I rarely venture elsewhere. I do understand how this post isn't vehicle specific so understand your point.

A member on another forum had a discussion with redarc and he believe the issue is to do with the latest software which include a new fault sequence.
