Check out MJ products on eBay, based in Vic. I bought my duraprene pan gasket and filter from them, they should also do the ZF steel pans. No point doing the fluid without changing filter....

eBay also has 10% off sale at the moment which makes them even better priced. They also sell the genuine ZF oil, genuine ZF gasket if you want it or two other options which they say seal better and the metatronic (?) plug seal thingo to.

Just be aware some of the ebay metal sumps do not have a sump drain in them - so check first. The first I was going to buy off ebay did not have the drain so i bought mine direct from ZF in Sydney to be sure for not much more than the ebay price.

As you need to take the sump off to replace the filter anyway the only advantage to having the filter plug is it makes draining the oil a less messy experience!

Yes but you should be changing the gearbox fluid at least once or twice to every filter change.

Maybe? I guess it depends on your service interval

I will change the filter and oil at every 50k km. (Ive only had to do it once so far, still got 26k km til.the next one)

How often do you change the oil?

Trans filters aren't like engine oil filters, changing it more frequently won't make it filter more effectively. Changing fluid more frequently is always beneficial.

Most of them do now. If you read the description when selecting your vendor the ones that have the drain and fill plugs on the metal sump state such. I can personally confirm that the offerings from the MJ store mentioned above do - they also offer the genuine ZF brand product for more...

I now do a basic drain and refil every second engine service (3 to 4 litres - $100 in oil on special from Repco) - so 24,000km - this changes about 1/3 of the overall oil each time.

If you followed the LR service schedule the filter would not be changed until 240,000km - ZF recommends the filter be changed every 120,000km and the fluid much earlier depending on use.

Yes - my point was simply to double check - I would have thought that they all had drain holes and was surprised that they didn't.
