Out of interest why are you moving the Disco 3 on? With those km's I assume it's trade in/used sale price is somewhat reduced and if it's already kitted out the way you like it and has been so reliable it sounds like it's got some kick left in it!

						My MY06 disco 3 which has been my joy for 12 years and 270,000 km is trading in on a 87,000 km Toorak tractor MY14 Disco 4 tomorrow.
I had all the usual troubles with the Disco 3 but would not have had a better car to take a caravan to Cape York, pull a caravan all over Australia, scrabble around in the Victorian high country, carry 7 when needed, pull out stumps, move the family's furniture and heavy goods around and do the grandchildren's school run and work driving around Melbourne. It was worked hard, may have limped at times but never stopped on me.
It is now very tired and will need some work. I looked at Toyotas, just not in the race and at Disco 5, just a fashion statement.
I'm 78 and the Disco 4 may see my driving days out. Its familiarity is a certain advantage.
It's a pity Land Rover have handed the market to Toyota. What will the royal family's minders drive now?
The Disco 4, unlike My Disco 3, will not be kitted out with 6th wheel, bull bar, roof rack, amateur and CB radio, 3 way battery charging and all the bells and whistles but I will still be driving one of the most pleasant drives on the road.

I enjoy reading things like this for several reasons, 78 years young and still out in the 4wd living life - well done and keep at it.
Moving from a D3 to D4 is understandable after the run you had in the D3 , I hope the D4 gives you good service as well.

						My faithful Disco 3 was developing transmission noise and delay, the brake discs needed machining, there was play in the steering box, transmission shaft takeup clunk, new rattles, windscreen sandblasting and various bumps and bruises so bringing it back to nice was going to be expensive.
The Disco 4 is just a 7 seater S but that will do.
Disco 4s with low mileage are rare and expensive because of the unacceptability of the Disco 5 and I wanted to buy from a dealer.
I accepted a trade in price that, with the cost of making it good, would have added up to what the car may have been worth when repaired. Trading in saved a lot of bother.
