How to separate the key fob halves

    Hi,

Besides brute force does anyone know how to separate this D4 2011 key fob? It’s the genuine article from LR, I’m trying to put the internals of my old key fob into the new one.

    Cheers

Push the black piece in the centre at the top edge of key and slide open both sides (assists with getting under the back in various places). The back will pry off with some force

Excellent, got it. wasn’t sure if I was going to break it but it did need a bit of force to come spray as you said

    Cheers

I'm looking around at the moment for new casings for my existing internals - I think the part number is LR052882 - and the going price on Ebay seems around $73 at best. Does anyone know of any better (read cheaper) options, preferably using the existing fob internals to avoid having to delete and recode keys blah blah?

    Thanks!

I transferred to internals to the newer RR 'pebble' style of FOB. Smaller + lighter + the FOB case is available for ~$20.

Some links here. Very easy if you have a dremel tool but you can probable get away with it with a small file.

Thanks! Looks like there's really just a touch up on one cnr of the PCB required.

PN for the newer genuine fob case is LR078922 but seems that doesn't include the chrome and key blank, the tight wads!

My D4 came new with two of the new slimmer style of key fobs - I thought they all did. Mine is an MY2011.

I just used the replacement equivalent casing. It's much better wearing (as in don't wear) than the original. With a little brute force the old case splits apart. I've now replaced both and the original (trial) replacement is three years old and in perfect condition, hence I repaired my spare key too. Completely different design so there is no rubber outer to split away it would seem.
