more weird D3 symtoms but probably old ones

Rightoh, these symptoms are probably ones many have seen.
    D3 MY08, TDV6, 241,000km

Occassionally I have had a parking brake fault message on the instruments console display but it works fine, message goes away and no issues.

Last week I started to get occassional "transmission fault, reduced traction" message come up at start up.

In both cases no "bongs/gongs" No christmas tree lights, no height lowering and no restricted perfomance.
The trans message did come up while driving a couple of times so pulled over, did the lock/unlock 3 times routine which cleared it.

Now I do suspect my 7 year old Bosch 850CCA battery as being on the way out.
Brake switch was replaced 3 years ago.
Alternator replaced about 4 or 5 years ago.

At this stage I have not put the IID tool on or measured battery voltages with the DMM. I'll do that on the weekend.

Just looking to garner thoughts from others who may have seen these symptoms and knew of the culprit.

    cheers
    Peter

Checked codes on the weekend, nothing of significance, seemed to be all comms related as I suspected. Cleared them all out.

Had the D3 on the C-tek all friday and most of Sat. When I disconnected it I checked the battery voltage with my DMM (fluke 77) and got 12.5V, thought it would be a bit higher given it had just come off charge.

With glow plugs heating it dropped to about 11.5V I think

Cranking down to 8.6V that was with headlights on though in auto mode.

Idle 13.8V, 2500 RPM 14V with headlights on, 14.1V with headlights off
    Spotlights and LED bar 13.9V

Suggests to me that the alternator is doing it's think but the battery is low on cca / reserve capacity.
    Anyway probably about due for a new one . . .can I prolong the $329 outlay a bit longer . . . .

If your IIDTool shows a battery monitor reset function for your vehicle then you could try resetting it, although IIRC its only the D4s that respond to an indicated new battery.
