Anyone know the CAN Hi and CAN Lo OBD port pin numbers and wire colours please

I am attempting to install a CANNECT CANM8 CANBUS high beam interface and associated CONTACTLESS READER as the first step towards installing some driving lights in my 2014 LR4 HSE with Bi-Xenons. I am not sure if anyone has experience with using these in a late model disco with Bi-Xenons but I am looking for help.

The reason for using these items has been mentioned on DISCO3.CO.UK forum:-

    DISCO3.CO.UK - View topic - Lazer 750 Triple R fitting

So.... it hasn't gone well. I have the CanM8 and contactless reader installed, but the interface does not send out 12v when the cars high beam is activated. The CanM8 Interface powers up OK and I get a constant green light from its LED (their website info says this means Canbus Data is recognised). However, it does not flash green when the car is moving (info from Lazer UK website says it should) and importantly does not give 12V when the High beams are activated. I haven't started the lights install yet so I am using a voltmeter to check. I don't think the reader itself is faulty as I live near the importer and they let me temporarily swap another one in which did the same thing. The output wire constantly gives a reading of around 0.03V regardless of high beam being switched on or off. Continuity of this output wire from the reader seems fine.

The connection point for the contactless reader to the Can Hi and Can Lo wires is just above the OBD port socket. I thought that I had this info sorted but just in case I was wrong with my wire colour and pin identification can anyone please confirm what pin number in the OBD socket the Can Hi and Can Lo are and what colour these wires are meant to be (LR4 HSE 2014 model)

Any other advice to get this problem sorted would be greatly appreciated.

Failing that, would anyone have a suggestion of an auto electrician in Perth that would know about this type of equipment.

    Many thanks in advance. Peter

    MY12 L322 and MY11 D4

MS HI pin 3 (Yellow/White stripe), LO pin 11 (Yellow/Blue stripe). I expect your MY14 to be the same.

HS HI pin 6 (Yellow/Brown stripe), LO pin 14 (Yellow/Black stripe)

The AFS module that controls headlamp swivelling and levelling is on the HS canbus for both of these vehicles.

I understand what the unit does. My question is why are you using it?

You can simply tap into the high beam circuit on AU discoveries..

Hi Graeme, Pin 11, Can Lo, Yellow/blue stripe and Pin 3, Can Hi, Yellow/white stripe is what I had connected the contactless reader to. I had seen an older pre 2014 circuit diagram and hoped they were the same colours in later models.

    Thanks for your response.

Hi Tombie, good to have you back. I have missed your advice.

To answer your question I was under the impression that I had to if I had the Bi-xenons. Here is a quote from that thread I linked to which shows some the information that led me in this direction. It would be great to think the install could be easier as I feel I am out of my depth now.

    ............."At last - an explanation!

I have spoken to Nick at Lazer and he says that the run out models of the D4 fitted with Bi-Xenon headlights require a CanM8 interface.

He says that Bi-xenon light units utilise a 'shutter' which moves over the xenon bulb to alter the beam between dipped and main beam headlamps.

There is no constant live feed to the 'main beam', instead, the shutter mechanism is triggered by a small live feed to switch the shutter open (mainbeam) and then another live feed to close the shutter (dipped). As the electrical pulse is not a constant feed the spot light switching relay will not work consistently. This can result in either (a) the spot lights not coming on when the driver activates the main beam (b) the spot lights not turning off when dipped or (c) the spot lights not working at all.

So, a CanM8 is required but there is a method of fitting it whilst also preserving the integrity of the wiring harness. This is done by using a non invasive CANM8 CANNECT CONTACTLESS READER."

As the AFS module runs from the HS canbus, I suspect that is the bus that you should be trying.

When in the reported later D4 model run was the momentary shutter introduced? Does your D4 have high beam fill-in lights or DRLs?

The later model run out was the UK spec with the DPF and Adblue units fitted.

    We never got these.

An easy check would be to test the feed wire to the shutter, if it stays live you’re all good.

Working on the contactless module you are trying to get running - are you unwinding the can lines as per instruction? They won’t work coiled around each other with that device.

Peter, I have a 2014 with bi-xenons and simply spliced into the high-beam wire just outside the head light unit for the switch trigger wire to relay.

    Cheers,

    Thanks Scott,
Your information is very useful and its good to know that there is another option available.

    Hi Graeme,

The instructions from Lazer said to connect just near the OBD port. I don't know the answers to your other question re the date of the momentary shutter introduction but I do have daytime running lights.

    Thanks. Peter
