I think the worst I ever got with the D2 was 20L/100 km when really struggling up hilly country (down to 2nd gear in some spots).

At least the 2.7 actually can cruise at 100, but any decent gradient bumps/changes at that speed tightens the cheek muscles that I sit on ie it twitches quite a bit and the trailer tries to steer the car.
I guess the extra power/torque and towing speed come at a cost - in this case it’s fuel.

Interesting thought isn’t it that in general the motors that replaced the Td5 in Discovery and Defender have failed to improve on its fuel economy. Our MY12 Puma 90 couldn’t achieve the economy of a Td5 Discovery despite, I assume, it likely being lighter due to the short wheel base. They might be cleaner engines with the new emission standards but surely the additional fuel use counteracts that...

Trim tabs on the rear of the van would also break up the wake and improve consumption by a couple of percent.
I have a set at home but SWMBO hates the look of them and throws a darkie when I fit them to the car.
I have a set of the clear ones in the bloke's hand
