Question D4 Fog Light to LED DRL/Fog combination conversition - how to trigger DRL on?

Read Wbarka69’s post in Prospeed Light Bracket and Stedi Lights regarding converting the factory fog lights to a LED combination DRL/Fog light such as LAND ROVER DISCOVERY LR4 HIGH POWER FULL LED DRL FOG LIGHTS 2009-2016 | eBay

How does one wire up the new DRL part of the LED combination light to trigger the DRL on at the correct times? Is it voltage sensitive and only turns on when voltage is high enough due to the engine/alternator running?

    EDIT:
The answer was in the pictures which weren’t loading on my mobile.

I thought the Stedi LED fog lights are true plug and play, their wiring plugs directly into the original plugs, and they work off the original fog light switch. You can (but i havent) splice into the drl wiring for the bull bar drl's, or the headlight drl. The fused wire solution above would also work but means another wire running to the fuse box. Ive now got (apart from std bixenon main headlight) led drl in the headlight (as std, not the signature lights though), led fog lights and led turn/drl combo both mounted in the bull bar, all running off the std switches. Single row Led light bar is wired into lh headlight for power and switched in the cabin. Next is the h7 infill light upgrade to Stedi h7 led units, also a direct drop in replacement.

I have a funny feeling the DRLs come on when you put it in gear. It's hard to test the theory if you're by yourself though!

Park near a wall, foot on brake, place in gear D4 Fog Light to LED DRL/Fog combination conversition - how to trigger DRL on?

An easier wiring point is just behind the grill.
The empty plug is for the Smog sensor and is ignition switched.

You can use this to run the DRLs.

Looks like a great set up. Would like to hear post install thoughts and some pics. I think your original question is still valid, the diagram shows the plug connection which would turn the fog lights on/off from the switch on the dash. The additional wire running back to the fuse box with the piggyback fuse holder will power up the DRL, (I am guessing) but what switches the DRL off when main lights are turned on. A NC relay could be used with input from piggyback fuse in the headlight or parking light circuit. Suggestion above about using the smog sensor would make it easier.

I run a different version (Osram) but keep my DRLs on using the dim function that my unit has.
A simple move of a wire changes this to lights on=DRL off.

My DRL's run under my headlights and up behind the orange reflectors on the side of the headlight assembly.

When the indicators or hazard lights are turned on, the DRL/s extinguish and the LED strip becomes a cascading indicator light.

And then I've fitted a pair of cascading side indicator repeaters to match the lights on the front - just for something different.

Question D4 - Fog Light and DRL combination options

Thanks for that. Particularly Tombie for the easy to access ignition power source.

I want to add the DRL's to the wife MY12 D4 as it's a dark coloured vehicle and the headlights just get left on the 'Auto' mode for ease.
For those that have done this already, wondering what you used?

Sadly Stedi are no longer restocking their Osram units < STEDI OSRAM Universal LED Fog Light Kit > and offer LED fog light only units now.

There's a few options on eBay:

    drive_automotive
LAND ROVER DISCOVERY LR4 HIGH POWER FULL LED DRL FOG LIGHTS 2009-2016 | eBay
    $209.99

    and powerful_uk_ltd have three variants:
    FOG-923TP E-Marked < LED Front 2in1 Fog+DRL Lamp light for LandRover Discovery 4 LR4 day running spot | eBay > at around $240.00
FOG923RNG < LED Front Fog+DRL Lamp bumper light for LandRover Discovery 4 angel eye spot L R | eBay > at around $230.00
FOG923MKR < LED Front Fog+DRL bumper Lamp light for LandRover Discovery 4 day time running | eBay > at around $170.00 but note that it says that the DRL lights or so dim that they're really just for cosmetic purposes.

Any other options anyone is aware of?

At present the first two powerful_uk_ltd look to have the better build quality.
