Having visited Karijini a couple of times during the January heat before the roads are graded ready for the tourists, I'm glad someone else thinks the same!
Life is just a series of obstacles preventing you from taking a nap.

Reading of others doing suspension work I am thinking I will need to do a fair bit on mine soon, starting to get a slight clunk when turning wheel to the right which indicates to me that LCA are due. Mine is a 2007 (Aug) D3, 306,000km and I am still on original upper and rear control arms. I had new air struts fitted late last year but it is wallowing about a lot so thinking the others must be getting close.
Doing all of that is beyond me as it is my only vehicle and I live alone, 25km to town and 35km to work so can't afford to stuff up something and be stranded while I wait for a part. Will need to get a quote to get it done I guess.

Need to get the front diff pinion seal done as well. $$$$$
Mate, there is no brake material left on those shoes. Replace both sets with new asap

Dealer? Indy specialist? Or generic garage?
I over service the vehicle, stick to the Dealer at the appropriate intervals and generic garage in between.

Had a look through the service history and see that the shoes have been "adjusted" on the invoice.

They either were not adjusted the last few services but marked down as complete or adjusted incorrectly (generic dealer) prior.

They are in this state due to locking on and the Mrs driving through absolutely destroying the assemble / shoes

I could go down the path of challenging the generic dealer, however it will most likely cause stress and additional funds.

Tactic is to go to the dealer and have it done properly, limited stress...

Before you take it to dealer…

Remove wheel and place tape over the plug to access the brake port (or dot mark them).

*Almost* willing to put a bottle of your choosing on it that they won’t do the check or adjustment.

Caught dealers out many a time with simple markings on items that are supposed to be changed/checked/adjusted.

Watched one dealer workshop (with nice glass windows from waiting room into workshop) do a service on a D4.

Oil and filter done, bit of a wiggle and check here and there. Then a mirror to check brake pad wear through the wheels.
If the wheels don’t come off - the brakes aren’t being adjusted or cleaned out.

Best to confirm, even better to observe!

Or better still a good Indie that only works on LR’s and not much else.

I have found they generally do a much better job than a dealer at a much better price.

Mate of mine when he had his D4 would mark as well, we would check afterwards and found the mechanic actually acknowledged the mark with his own using a different colour paint pen and check mark. One example was the lower belly pan, he lost the spacer tube one time, so marked it up, came back with new tube and check mark. I was pretty impressed by that, especially from a dealers workshop....

Just returned to Ormiston Gorge from a trip to Kings Canyon.
The camping neighbour said "I can hear hissing from your car mate". Sure enough front pass bag hissing. So wheel off, inner guard off, (hate those plastic clips), try to undo hose collet but 12mm spanner too long.
About to cut my ubeut SCA spanner in half when my mate offers me a very small shifter.
Collet off, new O ring on. 20mins tops.
Next 1hr putting the inner guard, etc, back on.
    Proud of my self.
Next morning go to leave with van on.
First I'm told the roof hatch is open, then I've got a flat on the van (new tyres) pump that up, then have to stop to close the caravan door, then car says the battery in key is low.
Finish day by repairing tyre (nail), then put new battery in key but it has the same problem.
Hopefully that's the end of my problems on the 4 MTH trip to WA.

Left my D4 at indie today for A service, belts, water pump and passenger side inlet manifold.

I was going to preventatively replace alternator at the same time too but with the additional cost of the inlet manifold now in play, I’ll leave that a little longer.

    I reckon about $5k

When the first inlet manifold went in Feb last year, discussion was that the second one could be left for a while, but in line with wisdom here, they now recommend doing both at the same time as the second one typically goes soon after ~6 months or so. Very few kms between then and now for me
