Perhaps the alternative question is has anyone unsuccessfully changed them out?

So going on holiday the D4 decided it no longer wants it coolant so stuck in Newman waiting to be towed at a cost of $8200…….. WA RAC getting ripped of by the Pilbara tax
so it’s leaking from the plastic connector behind the compressor, but the rad shows leaking after a compression test
Camper trailer has to go home another way ….. just love the Discovery
Ouch!!
just out of curiosity, what year and how many km on it?
I am asking because I do big trips and often remote so a relatively reliable car is vital and in the process of deciding whether to throw big coin at a 10 year old D4 to replace everything that is a show stopper or buy a new 4wd
That plastic block coolant fitting behind compressor needs changing after 10 years mandatorily. There’s only a few items like this to stay on top of. Change water pump with timing belt also.
Do at same time as 2nd timing belt change = 14 years a great time to do it
Good grief. People complaining that a 14 year old vehicle needed some maintenance. Imagine that... but lets blame the vehicle... [bigwhistle]
Preventative mainteance would have cost $2k
If we're talking about the coolant outlet manifold, isn't that closer to $50 - $100? Bearing in mind you change it during the mandatory timing belts, so only an incremental cost.
I think I'm on my 4th now - gets changed any time the area is touched, so 2x for timing belt, 1x for intake manifold, 1x for exhaust manifold.
