LR reportedly contracted Ford to make some more 4.4 SDV8 engines due to the number of engines in late model RRs that had failed. LR was buying back the vehicles because they were still under warranty yet couldn't be repaired.

The crankshafts don't break but oil dilution from DPF regens, failed or otherwise, coupled with long service intervals and fuel economy oils lead to bearing failure.

....and therein lies the biggest problem causing all these failures.... ridiculously long service intervals!

And I have actually been thinking of buying a petrol D3, since they seem to have the least issues.
Did some research on the D5s and on the basis of that research there's no way I'm buying one of them.
