No. It was assumed that my crank would be OK. It was, sort of, but was scored and Pat had another one available. No, it was not strengthened in any way. Not sure how you'd do that. Pat would argue (and I really shouldn't be putting words in his mouth) that the issue with the TDV6 is block shift due to lack of seasoning. Whether this is due to one or two batches or to different manufacturers or whatever is unknown (at least to us, JLR and Ford will know exactly what the cause is), but the known failures of even new engines tends to indicate that the block shift hypothesis is plausible.

I tell you what, the secrecy of Land Rover engineering is as good or better than many secret services. The fact the true/proven reason hasn’t leaked out of them surprises me.

The daughter got side swiped in a carpark today, bent the Mitch Hitch and rear jerry can holder was destroyed, the guy drove around her while she was reversing into a parking spot.

That's a really tricky one for insurance as the onus is on the reversing vehicle. I had a similar issue a couple of decades ago and argued that the other party had placed their vehicle in an obviously dangerous position where a collision was inevitable. It was a good argument, and I refused to pay, but the amount was well below the threshold for pursuing in court. Had it gone that far though, I reckon I would have lost.

Today I booked it in for a roof respray. Needs a bit of "scratch and dent" work for the carpark dings also, but I figure if I get those done I'll be too scared to take it offroad. The roof desperately needs doing though.

Scared of rolling it or do you like overgrown bush tracks. I went down one like that once, started off as an "Unmaintained Road", I ended up getting my brother to hold vines and branches off the roof with a stick! Also it was really muddy, the car threw mud off it for miles after we got back on the tar.

The spray painter at Solihull was obviously very short or they did not offer him a ladder. The clear coat on the roof is very thin.
