What happened to your D3/D4 today?

The latter. Lots of places I want to go have "scratchy branches" sticking out. If I got it looking nice I'd be reticent to head to the beach down a dicey track.

Weird isn't it. Still, probably the same thickness they put on the crank bearings. Bizarre that on the outside of the roof-rails, the paint is fine, but the patch in the middle is ****ed. Almost like they paint them separately then bolt them together. On my Volvo the clear coat was consistently ****ed, but the disco just has that one panel.

Same with my old D4.

Fun day. Removed the front end as part of changing the AC compressor. Between the intercooler and radiator it was full half way up with crud. I have no idea how it was remaining cool. Also might explain the poor performance of the AC.
Noted I have a decent leak from the primary turbo. I guess at nearly 400k km, the seals are a little worn.

You have certainly been busy with the spanners, removing the whole front!

Yep. All day. Still, it’s been worth it just to clean out the rad pack. I hope I can remember how it goes back together and what nuts and bolts go where [emoji1787][emoji1787][emoji1787]

30 years ago I’d have pulled all that apart, stuffed it in a box and put it back together 9 months later from memory. After 30 years of a combination of age and probably booze, I now take a crapload of photos, measure bolt lengths and even print exploded parts diagrams A3 and sticky tape bolts, nuts and screws to the paper.

If you have any parts left over, it was over-engineered to begin with,

I expected to put my old D4 back together the next morning, not 2-3 weeks later, so the memory might be a little stretched, but I didn't remove the front-end so less parts for which to find homes.
