I like this idea and I'll see if I have space in that storage sport.

Ended up mounting the compressor using its original rubber mounts on a couple of 40mm square tube sections screwed onto a 12mm plywood base which was profiled to fit around the electrical connection boxes on the floor in that area. The plywood base was screwed down using two existing threaded holes. I even went as far as to wire in a bluetooth remote start/stop switch so I can stop/start the compressor from the back of the car when checking pressures during inflation.
I've yet to have the compressor trip out on over temp when needing to pump up the 4 tyres from as low as 10psi but then again they're not 35inchers so it's not needing to run very long. Attachment 191804
This is very useful to know - considering installing in this spot, my main concern was the heat in the engine bay. I might put the compressor here (or in the rear storage).
The plywood base makes sense, so I have this in mind for my install - and the bluetooth switch is a nice touch!
you again for this detailed input!

    Update: no pics sorry.

We stripped the rust and surrounding paint off today.
Etch primed and then seam sealed the area.

    Paint is going down shortly.

I took the D3, rear, doggie seat cover out yesterday, as I had to carry a rear passenger.

Put Henry the Dog in the back today, sans cover and he had a monster regurg, on the way home from town.

I'm still trying to get the little breather holes in the leather clean.

The wire to intercept is PLG (Pink with a Light Green trace).
The graphic on the switch is meant to represent a tent!
This turns out to be one of the best mods I've done to the car. Since July, I've done a Simpson double crossing and a number of other camping trips. If I had to buy another D4 or new Defender, this would be one of the first mods I'd do. Anyway, I've written up what I did and the mods may consider adding it to the D3/4 sticky.

Quick weekend away to Yunta for their Christmas Shoot.

Great light and sound show Friday night as a storm passed over slowly for 6 hours!

Took the hybrid, 13.8l/100km at 105km/h for the trip.

620km added to the odometer without issue.

    Turbo issue

Hmm ... I've had my first issue with my D4 (8 speed). I has had an un-diagnosable issue since new, where the I get a warning on low power mode, and the car looses lots of its power. This first happened while towing a van (at the time probably 2.1 tonne) at 30,000 km. To fix it, I would pull over and re-start. Which almost always fixed the problem, although sometimes in hills it might happen again. No service was ever able to find out any issues.

Now at 110,000 it happened again but would not fix itself after a re-start. Although once (and towing the same van) it had low power mode on the dash, but had full power. But when I stopped for fuel, it came back. I called a service person and they said its the second turbo opening control. So I could drive mostly at the speed limit, limiting the revs to 2150 RPM. Otherwise the 2nd turbo would want to work, and bang - I would go into a type of low power mode.

So it looks like the actuator is stuck or failed. I hope its that because if its an electrical fault - which I fear because this has been a sort of issue since new - it will re-occur despite spending money on it.

For a trip around Australia I am now considering a Toyota.
