Arrived home this afternoon after 8 nights of camping having traveled a tad over 2,000km. South on the Stuart to Bitter Springs (Mataranka), further south past Elliott and then east along the Barkly Stock Route to the Tablelands. Thence north to Cape Crawford (Heartbreak Hotel) and west along the Carpentaria to finally turn north back on the Stuart with a stop over at Leilyn (Edith Falls). Faultless motoring

However the wind on the Barkly was quite strong and chilly (with appropriate apologies to those who suffered worse in NSW at the time) so we were glad when it eased after about 3 days. Unfortunately back to the salt mines on Monday.
    Cheers, Dale

Just a follow up. I drained the oil out on the weekend and nearly 6 litres so all ok. On Sunday driving and 20kms in the warning comes on. Just ignored it this time. Went to lunch checked the level and full. Same thing happened on the way home. Just a question can I clear codes with my nancom? Im thinking the car needs to be reset. Concern I have is if I clear warnings can I select which ones I want removed? Car is due for service in 3 months time and I prefer the Indy to clear codes as he can address any ones that need fixing

Clearing the codes won’t stop it happening so I’m not sure what the point is?

I’d suggest your vehicle is due to a visit about now!

Our German mates have a video on it. Not something for the faint hearted.

Screenshot the codes then clear and see what comes back, then screenshot those.

IIRC the Germans did a 2.7 which has a 2-part sump, although they had to remove the upper sump to get to the bearings so effectively the same as the 3.0.

    Spoke to Indy,

Big job removing diff removing sump. Or just live with the problem. Its funny that when cooled down it shows the sump full. so I dont know what happens to cause it to show low when driving and then self correct when. Also not until the car is warmed up ie after +25Kms driving.

Check that the wiring where it emerges from the sump isn't chaffed, although that would probably produce a fault rather than an incorrect level reading.

That big job is still magnitudes less expensive than an engine failure.

Do you really want to chance not getting the correct warnings?
