    A Pillar Windscreen Trim Replacement.

    Dear D4 Gang,

The A pillar windscreen trim, all but flew off last weekend, at highway speed.
On examination, only one clip left and lots of broken plastic on trim, so I bought a genuine replacement.

I have read this THREAD from a few years ago on replacing trim clips.
the advice on gently 'tapping? down the clip holders is good. (Windscreen replacers have a habit of pulling the trim off too vigorously and stretching out the clip holders, making a truly ?flush? fit impossible.)

Is there anything else I should know please?

    Best wishes, Jeff

I bought clips DHB500400 which is the set for both A Pillars but didn't need the spares as the trim seated quite easily (no damage/movement of the panel around the holes). Has had one highway run since and the trim is still in place!

My trim broke where the clips slide into so i just pushed screw plugs into the holes and used screws with black furniture screw cover caps so they will never come off again.

    Thank you everyone. Greatly appreciated.
I will write it up after I complete the job and add it to the thread on the subject.

The whine is getting louder. Took the serpentine belt off and it stopped, so at least it's not timing. Having said that, I should really do the timing belt in the next year(ish).

All the bearings feel fine. No roughness or drag at all on any of them. I can hear the whine with the engine above about 2000 RPM, so I got the old bit of hose out to use as a stethoscope. I can't hear it from around the pulleys, but it gets a bit louder when I rest the hose on the alternator body (away from the vent slots where it's otherwise overwhelmed with the internal fan noise).

So I figure it's the alternator. Given the noise signature as I move the hose around likely at the rear, so I suppose bearing or brushes.

Ordinarily I'd pull it and give it a going over, but given the reputation of the rectifier diodes letting go with age I might just put a new one in. Car has 260kk on the clock and as far as I can tell it's original. No second battery or great loads, so it has had a pretty easy life.

Anyone know a good source for one in Perth? I can get a genuine Denso from LRDirect for about $560 landed and I'm not in a hurry. If there's a relatively comparably priced local source I'd go local. I'm always willing to pay up to 25% more for locally sourced.

Hang on. That is my house. When Tombie asked if he could borrow my house for a while, I didn't think he planned on relocating it!
