    I Had a Win Today.

About a month ago I reversed out of the garage to be greeted with a spot of engine oil on the garage floor. My first oil leak at 250k. Stuck a stick into the valley next to the oil filter and sure enough there was oil in there. So either a leaking oil cooler or hopefully as I had recently done an oil change, a leaking oil filter.

I removed the filter and reinstalled it. The o-ring looked fine. Not twisted or crimped. Looking like the oil cooler. Sucked the oil out of the valley.

So today after about 400kms I stuck the oil extractor tube into the valley.

Bone dry. Today is a good day.

Nice one - meanwhile, at 270k, I just changed out my second cooler...

I keep an eagle eye on my nice new coolant bottle for any sign of contamination. Was that what tipped you off or an oil leak?

My new Dalmatian themed garage floor was the tipoff - at which point I immediately checked the coolant, mercifully free of contaminants.

Had my indy do the change out, who said it was getting quite bad. Think I dodged a bullet to be honest. There was a dodgy batch of coolers a while back - he is seeing a few of them come back 'early'. My second lasted only about 80k km, installed in 2021.

Let the son use it for the afternoon - well it is his birthday!

Given the previous posts - Oil Cooler was replaced at about 208K km (prior to me purchasing vehicle the latest engine was installed with about 25K km on it). Just on 35K km since the cooler was changed.

The Nissens oil cooler in my D4 is leaking into the valley. No oil in coolant.
it is booked to be replaced at my Indy in a week. This is disappointing as the cooler has only lasted 57,000km and 2.5 years.
I will report back with photos of the cooler.
I will be replacing it with genuine LR.
    best, jeff.

Wow. I always thought Nissens was the OEM for the LR oil cooler (and heater core).

Me too and you should only have to change the gasket most likely and carefully clean out the thread holes with air and torque correctly.
