Today the windscreen washer pump decided it'd had enough. The bearing growl has stepped up a notch and is sounding very unhappy, so I've fired the parts canon again and ordered a new water pump and washer pump. Can't wait until timing belt time.

Unbelievable!! Me too this week. Has ground to an almost halt. Will work for a few seconds.

Spent this week looking at replacements (Eurospares or Britpart).

I’m puzzling how it seperately does the rear does it run in reverse for that I assume?

I had been adding a bit of bug off and I suspect some clogging.

Mine is dead, dead. Crap, if I'd known I'd have ordered 2!

Clever little device. Yes, it separates the front and rear by running forwards or backwards. I ordered from LRDirect as that was where I was getting the water pump from. They offer Britpart, Allmakes and Landrover. I ordered Allmakes. It was 51c more expensive than Britpart, so I'm probably taking a bit of a chance, but was about 14% of the price of Land Rover.

This one is a job I'm not fussed about doing twice if it turns out to be a poor gamble.

I ended up buying an SKF water pump. Time will tell if I should have paid 100% more for a genuine. Again, not a job I'm worried about doing twice (unlike the block coolant inlet I intend to do at the same time).

I did wonder if I should post a "Hey I'm putting an order in does anyone want to share shipping". Minimum shipping charge from LRDirect is about $50. Estimated shipping for all the timing belt stuff is about $80. That'll probably have to wait until next year though.

I think the key is going for a metal impeller on the water pump

Went on my favourite short dirt road drive yesterday as I was getting cabin fever with all the rain we've had this week. The creek crossing were quite a bit higher and flowing faster than I expected, one even seemed deep enough to affect the headlights. I was a bit concerned but I know the road well from driving it for 12 years, and they are are all concrete causeways so no chance of the flow washing the ground out from under the wheels. I raised the suspension at each one and gauged the depth by the vertical reflector boards.

    I bought a D3 Petrol V6 last month

Over the last few weeks I have changed the left front hub, the right front inner tie rod end, learned what you guys are talking about re 12s and 12n trailer plugs and purchased the obligatory IID tool off a member here coz it won't see a workshop except for the wheel alignment it got after front end work.

Also did find out about the flashing led trailer light issue when I hooked the 6x4 up to test the 12n socket (see I am smarter already, correct socket selected)

I pulled fuses 4 and 5 from the towing fuse block so only actual 5 pins I need are live/connected through.

Gave a few dollars to Jaycar for box, relays, dpdt switch and some thin cringeworthy 7 pin trailer cable. some more money for some load resistors to Autobarn and using a circuit on the interwebs I made up a box with a remote switch mounted on the sloping trim just above the access panel for the towbar storage.

IMG20251116195145.jpg So I did it as a bypass direct to socket for incandescents and all in for led lights.

    IMG20251115205905.jpg IMG20251116155320.jpg IMG20251116182100.jpg IMG20251116183358.jpg

IMG20251117203139.jpg I used double sided tape and put box on inner of quarter panel with component mounted 'hot' side facing into the cavity. I did put hazards on for a few minutes and it got warm but still able to be held so for now it gets me blinking and can keep an eye on it. When I get the urge i will put hazards on for 30 minutes as a heat soak test.

Astonishingly (it is after all a land rover) it had no running issues other than front end bits and it just starts and runs, I also notice it is not as thirsty as I expected from the anecdotal stuff on the forums.

I would have liked a diesel but just the thought of the financial stress of a snapped crank or hpfp or oil pump failure was enough to put me off. And that's with me doing the labour. And I only got this because I lowballed, got lucky, then went 'oh fudge, now I gotta come up with the money!'

I've now got 2 landys and a picanto and there is only one of me, so sometime next year I am going to have to slim down, the D2 is the work horse with racks and H frame on bullbar to carry long stuff when I do the handyman thing, the Picanto is the shopping trolley and the D3 was meant to replace both as the all rounder but the bloody thing is in such good condition I'm apprehensive about throwing the tools in and stuff on top at the moment.

And here are some pics for your viewing pleasure:

    IMG20251020125915.jpg IMG20251020125923.jpg IMG20251020125938.jpg IMG20251020130031.jpg IMG20251020130018.jpg IMG20251020125852.jpg

Both front lower control arms were replaced month or so b4 I bought it, also the PO said he had replaced the radiator and coolant tank as a pre emptive maintenance issue due to some slight leaking.

At this point I am still smacking myself in disbelief that I bought another one after having to wrestle so much with the D2 to get it to the point where I get in it and drive without giving a thought about reliability, then spend mine and others funds to purchase what could have been a nice looking financial disaster. But I seem to have got lucky at this point and expect to only deal with normal wear and tear as things develop over time.

It sits under the shade-cloth cover next to the carport getting wet as Cyclone Fina winds its way slowly past us.

    Advice pls

Mine is sitting under carport upsetting Picanto which is now outside in the weather

I would like some help on identifying what these mounting rails/tracks I have on the car are, I didn't even know they were there till earlier today ! Me thinks a better look over of the car might be in order.

What I mean is they have no markings so I don't have a clue if they are LR or other brand, they are as long as the high part of the roof and slope slightly down from inside edge to outside. There are 4 six sided nuts in each rail but I think they must be left overs from something mounted previously.

What I am after is to do the same similar as below for carrying 6m lengths of sheet/purlins/steel etc. although I will have to come up with something for the front as the bullbar on the D2 made a great mount for the H frame but not getting a bull bar for the D3 (unless Tombie finds his missing after his Mannum sleepover that is)
