I would like some help on identifying what these mounting rails/tracks I have on the car are, I didn't even know they were there till earlier today ! Me thinks a better look over of the car might be in order.

What I mean is they have no markings so I don't have a clue if they are LR or other brand, they are as long as the high part of the roof and slope slightly down from inside edge to outside. There are 4 six sided nuts in each rail but I think they must be left overs from something mounted previously.

What I am after is to do the same similar as below for carrying 6m lengths of sheet/purlins/steel etc. although I will have to come up with something for the front as the bullbar on the D2 made a great mount for the H frame but not getting a bull bar for the D3 (unless Tombie finds his missing after his Mannum sleepover that is)

    Ta muchly
    Factory style (or factory) rails.

You can get cross bars to mount to them from Rola, Rhino etc.

Remember the roof is only rated for 75kg dynamic load

    That's 5kg more than a D2.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

    Yes definitely Rhino .
I have just removed rails and platform from my deceased 2011 D4.
Don't think I will be using on the replacement 2015 D4 that has full factory rails and cross bars

    factory style or factory

    aftermarket rhino

    or some other aftermarket brand

    see, I'm confused already.

So if they're rhino am I limited to rhino everything else?

Can I remove them and buy cross bars that bolt directly into the roof channel using the threads that the rail is fixed to?

etc etc, I am pretty ignorant on this subject as you can tell

I had Rhino track or you could call them rails that fitted directly into the roof channels.
Then the roof bars legs clip to the tracks, and can be fitted anywhere along the track.

Works well, and the roof bars and legs clip off for ease of removal and refit.

Have the same system on our Land Cruiser.

    Rhino part number D3/4,RTS502.
Easy to fit,i did it myself.

An aftermarket copy of the factory short rail is what they are.

Yeah too much trawling the interwebs and overloaded with info. but some sites have generic pics and where I have seen the LR short tracks they seem horizontal so a leg with flat base would bolt up ok but mine are sloping down towards the outside of car.

I think this Backbone Kit Fits Land Rover Discovery 3 & 4 - Only 285.00 AUD | 4x4 Accessories | Canetoad Equipment Australia is the go for me eventually, and build a simple flat frame for it.

I have at least learnt the current rails are hiding another bolt underneath which is 10mm and goes into the body proper and its threaded 6mm head is what most tracks/rails are bolted to.

My saturday night plans to pay someone a visit at Mannum went astray because I headed towards victor harbour with brain fog, and then got back up to lobethal somehow through winding hills roads, then realized I had forgotten my tools, then dallied with the idea of waking the intended victim up and asking if he'd lend me some tools and a hand to get his bullbar off, then wisely in a moment of clarity decided I wasn't quite ready to be buried by the murray in an unmarked mud pit yet. So home I came with a very good appreciation of how much nicer a 6 speed auto is up hill and down dale and how the D2 auto would have been such an outstanding vehicle with a 6 speed ZF and all else being as is.

Thanks - and it sort of did. For us personally power went off at 2.50pm Sat and came back on 2.20pm today - half the time it was off after Marcus in March 2018.

19,500 properties lost power. As of Sunday evening 17,000 still without power. As of this afternoon 5,700. Most that don't have it seem to be individual lots were most likely the aerial has been damaged. Labour intensive when there's lots of them.

No real damage to our block although a native Milkwood snapped a couple of limbs.
