Correct, which is why we had the GVM upgrade done on the Land Cruiser, pre rego.
An extra 300KG on the rear axle, dodged the LCT,rides as well empty as loaded, why wouldn't one get it done?
It will be fine for anything we will ever tow,and load we carry in the vehicle.
Saves having to worry about are we overloaded or not.I have better things to worry about when travelling.
It is also the stress on the vehicle.
One of my brothers has a 4yr old Paj Sport. His GCM is 4700,ours is 5200KG,both when towing.
Going west, Cunninghams gap recently,34 degrees ambient,he couldn't stay at the speed limit,on the lower sections.Roadworks at the top, down to 40 Km/hr he could keep on the speed limit there.
His coolant temp was 110degrees at the top.I could go faster than the speed limit anywhere on the climb and our coolant temp was 92 degrees at the top.
One vehicle is up close to it's limits, the other, which is 500KG heavier, is doing it like a walk in the park.
LC200,done by an Independent guy,DMW engineered,ARB gear,BP 51s,Kings coils.
I had the softest rear coils fitted that were legal, rear airbags are part of the kit.
Haven’t had to use the bags yet, just keep them on 5 PSI.
With our camper and a heap of gear in the rear of the car it has never sagged.
BPs are remote res, adjustable,I keep them on close to the softest settings.
Apparently now the TJM XG or something are very good, remote res.
They use them a lot on the 300,well priced,
There are other top end stuff around at huge cost.
Dunno about Pedders.
Right. Yeah a mate of mine had a very late model LC200 with bags. Almost as good a ride as a D3/4 but with more cargo capacity. Just had to be manually inflated when he hooked up the van.
Mum always said if you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all. Big shocks, big springs and the bloke said to my brother "If you want a nice ride while you're not loaded / towing put 300kg of sand in the back". Dad didn't want to admit to me he'd had it done. As if I couldn't tell when I can put my entire torso between the back wheel and the wheel arch.
So he doesn't feel bad, I have a program I apply to the D3 when I'm parked next to him that drops the front an inch and raises the rear 32mm. I call it "dragster mode".
MY08 D3 - The Antichrist - "Permagrimace". Turn the key and play the "will it get me home again" lottery.
Currently have just shy of 80kg on the vehicle left.
I’m currently receiving the components from overseas for the GVM / GCM upgrade. It goes to the engineer for inspection and sign-off in January.
Once signed off it’ll be 4,500kg/8,000kg approved.
I’ve already had confirmation that I can go to this, just need to complete the updates and final test report.
