Melbourne D4 Owners: Ritters, Deacon/Carnegie or Rova Range?

Having had 2 "major" services within 12,000km I cracked the sads with the dealer and started looking at independents. I've had some work done by Ritters but still get the "dealer vibe" and wonder if I'm getting good value for money.

Rova Range is close to home and seems popular, and I see the owner was formerly at Deacons (now Carnegie Automotive I believe). I find it curious that the two would be within 100m or so of each other. Maybe Carnegie Automotive doesn't do Land Rovers these days...but I digress.

I'm interested in who you'd recommend. The car is a 2010 TDV6 HSE and has just clocked 250K, with the service due at 252K. Yes, I'm looking for someone who does good work without having to sell a kidney to pay for it.

Oh, and in case you are interested, yes, I know it doesn't hurt the car to have the same major service repeated but it certainly hurts the wallet!

    Cheers,
    Scott

HI Scott. FYI, I've just had the 150,000km service done by Ritters. First time I've used them. Found them to be friendly, competent and thorough. They did the belts change early, at this service, since I'd exceeded the 7 years prior to reaching the km requirement. 2011 SDV6 Discovery 4. I few months earlier I'd had the transmission oil/filter/pan replaced at another 'recommended' establishment in Melbourne. Ritters discovered that the pan was leaking and that the gasket/bolts used to put the new pan in was different to what they recommend and replaced the entire thing for me, at my expense. At least it should be done properly now. They sent me photos of the leak during the day of service just to get explain and to get my approval. They needed the car for 2 days for the entire service so the job wasn't rushed. I saw a multitude of different LR products at their establishment from RR Vogue's to muddy Defenders which was encouraging. I take mine offroad and they seemed up to speed on what to check and replace factoring in the 'non city' lifestyle which mine endures. Only my first time there but I'm a happy customer.

Ritta for me AMV are great as well. Love url land rover but have not directly used them.

Ritta helped me once from about 3000km away honest. Dealers do not do that. I know most of them by name now . URL helped me in a huge way with a steering rack which is favor I could not fail to mention

Cheaper is not always better I understand. Get to know them is well worth while

I have used ULR (2nd service) and Rova Range ever since. I was not happy at 1st with Rova Range, as one item was done off site and I had nothing but problems with it. Namely the windscreen needed to be replaced and pillar covers were not attached with OEM clips and then only 2clips per side. Only noticed because my snorkel was flapping around. Also the rear view mirror plastic cover fell off. After returning it to Rova Range and 2 hours later I told them to stop as their dirty mechanic had put grease and oil stains on my roof liner, and I fixed it myself. Since then I have told Jason (owner) that if he cannot do the work in his shop he is not to send it out, but tell me and I will arrange to get it done. Hence he told me my car will be due for a transmission flush and oil change (as I tow a van frequently) and that the best place to have that done is A & B Transmission in Dandenong. He is by far cheaper than ULR and uses genuine OEM parts and castrol oil. Every time I have had it serviced there (I do the 12K service myself) he has changed the rear pads. I now get my own and the sensor wire and do them myself as the price I get them for is half what he charges. One might ask why do I then use him? Its because he has picked up other matters that I would not have known about or perhaps checked. So I pay for his knowledge of what to look out for on a D4 especially one that gets a fair bit of hard work towing and 4WD use. He also has a loan car so that also helps.

Another vote for Les Richmond. In my experience great customer service, great work and reasonable prices.

Quite a while ago they did a fantastic rebuild of my classic RR 3.5 V8. They took no shortcuts and charged a very reasonable price. They also did a free oil and filter change and a carby tune after 1000km's as part of the work done.
A while ago when my R380 gearbox had had enough they said that they could rebuild it no problems. They also told me that it'd cost a fortune and that I'd be a LOT better off getting a changeover box from 4WD Industries which I did.
