Breakdown two weeks after last service and warranty end - should LR be gracious?

Now I will have to pay $1399 for this repair and vehicle is off the road till Friday as LR have only one water pump available in the country ( which is being transferred from another dealer ) plus other parts from Melbourne.

Has anyone had a water pump fail like this at 43,000km or less? Is that normal and would a scheduled service pick this up? The service agent told me that it's not something could be picked up and I was unlucky.

Asides from replacing tyres all round ( once ), rear pads twice, front once and wiper blades and a new battery I've not had to use the factory or extended warranty so have no experience of how this type of issue is handled.

Appreciate any advice or suggestions.

Australian consumer guarantee, if a part fails under the expected km under normal vehicle use and is serviced properly, you should still be covered.

That’s it’s Tombie- Aug 14 build Oct 14 delivery then I had 2 years warranty on top as additional cost to take it till Oct 19.

It’s an Allianz policy though, would that make difference to how a warranty repair and claim would be handled vs something inside the original 3 year warranty?

It’s not a huge amount of money in the grand scheme of things but nonetheless I had paid for this additional peace of mind and being 2 weeks since expiry, last LR dealer service and low km’s for a typically long lasting item.

Who to press on this the LR dealer, JLR or Allianz?

Give via the dealer, ask for good faith.

Try the nice way via dealer, ask for a good faith first as mentioned, then if you get roadblocked, know your rights as per Australian Consumer Guarantee, try dealer first, then JLRA to get it fixed as per the law.

Australian Consumer Guaruntee goes beyond warranty.

This is probably what the OP had too. Glad I didn't bother given that no warranty work was required in the 4th or 5th year.
I agree that water pump failure at that age/km's is unlucky/rare.

Barely considered the warranty. Wouldn’t waste my time, at the price for the good cover I could repair most things.

In 8 years I’ve had 1 good will - on the Seat cushioning of all things and nothing else to be concerned about.

Always good to ask nicely and know your rights.
From having a look also at the UK LR forum it seems having the pump go at standstill, cool engine much better thankfully than when moving with no easy pull over options. Lucky in that respect, also made the most of the “free” taxi ride back home after waving the car onto the flat bed truck. Glad also I had read up on how to get the car into neutral using the emergency release. Something the tow truck driver wasn’t completely familiar with, think I picked that up on a LR forum a while ago, some much good advice shared. Thanks for the comments so far all!

Consumer law is State based. Implied warranty is also State based. There is no Federal body that covers anyone. There should be.

Sure, but try and get the ACCC to act on a personal claim. They will ALWAYS refer to the State system, and consumer law is ALWAYS State based. I have two family members highly placed with CAV. They tell me this stuff every day. There isn't even a system to make a claim to the ACCC as an individual. Give it a try someday. If you are BHP they may listen.

The ACCC will act ( maybe) if GMH fails to pay super to 10,000 workers. They are not going to follow up on a single person's warranty claim.
