    Replacement key fob

We’ve only had 1 remote key for some years now and getting a second key is something long overdue.
Any recommendations on where I can get one? It only needs to be an emergency one as it won’t get used much (or at all hopefully!)

Personally I rotate use of each key fob weekly. I'd hate to grab the "emergency" key and find it won't operate.

There are plenty of options on eBay for keys but the fun bit is programming them to recognise your car. This is done using a GAP tool or similar. You can go through a dealer to get a key but it will cost a fortune, probably more than an eBay key and GAP tool purchase combined.

Do your research first before just buying a key for emergencies and it doesn't work.

Try eBay as suggested and the GAP tool. I got an extra which cost $25 from eBay and used the GAP tool to program it. There are loads of sellers just make sure that you are buying the complete key with electronics and not just the shell.

i did though have to contact GAP though and update the tool twice and send them the log, but they were very responsive.

if you have the GAP tool it’s well worth it and you’ll save yourself a lot of money. Good luck

    Mhz

Going through same process now, first took my original key to locksmith who stated key frequency was 433Mhz then bought complete key of ebay for $30 incl chip and another case only for $8. There are two frequencies available so make sure you get the one similar to your original key. I need to program mine now but don't have the tool or GAP. That will be my next step.

I just did mine two days ago on a 2011 Disco 4, using the GAP iid tool, my car wouldnt recognise the keys and i kept getting an E7 error, a little back and forth with GAP diagnostics, team, and upgrading the cars keyless module to a newer firmware.
The correct key for my car was the 433mhz remotes ...thought i'd mention that bit of info because i couldnt find it anywhere when i need it.
    Edit:
Also here is where I bought mine
