I've just installed an additional 7" screen into my D4. The screen has GPS, DVR,
USB, bluetooth, storage, etc.
The screen replaces the small info screen, which is relocated to the glovebox, and the output from the new unit goes into the AUX input to the existing stereo.
It works well, but, my problem is the unit won't turn off.
The permanent power, and the switched power leads from the new unit have been wired into the power lead on the back of the original stereo. i thought my problem would be that the new unit would turn off with the original unit and may possibly loose its memory, but it doesn't turn off at all. Even when I turn it off by its power button, the screen stays live and shows the time.
I removed the original screen and put it in the glovebox, you need it to be still connected in order to adjust the original stereo.
The new unit sits very well in the space vacated, its held in by the two plastic brackets that are used by the LR nav screen.
The RCA outputs from the new unit are wired into the AUX input of the LR stereo, the +ve (yellow) and the illumination wire (orange) are connected to the power wire on the LR stereo (red). The switched +ve (red) is connected to the back of the cigarette lighter in the centre console.
I fitted a small speaker so that I can hear the GPS commands when the stereo is NOT switched to Aux. I also put in a switch to turn this speaker off as it sounds crap when operating with music.
Its all working well, I just need to figure out something better with the small screen.
