I'm the same as "Victim", I never knew the thing had a green ring or any other colour ring. Maybe mine has never worked or I didn't notice it or assumed it was just another pretty thing to please those that like nonsensical crap in their cars.
The more I read about possible probs. with D4s the more I'm tending to giving up on 4WDs and just get something just for towing our small van. Maybe I should be like a bloke I knew who told me he never uses forums such as this as they are depressing.... then his Puma 110 transfer shaft crapped itself and he's never spoken to me since. Maybe he thinks I should have warned him.
Such is life as a Landie owner I suppose.

.......it's not just Landies....similar tales of woe exist across other vehicle specific forums too!

Guess that's what 7 year warranties and free servicing are designed to address😐

You can buy second hand rotary units for AU$100 on ebay including shipping from the UK, but in my case I fixed it without expense.

If a second hand unit is installed (MY13 Disco 4) will the unit need to be configured to the car or is it plug and play. The TB says the unit needs to be configured. https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/20...97267-1020.pdf I'd welcome any advice as I have a replacement unit. Many thanks Steve.

Hi All,

I'm a Newbie here and a big Thank you to Marc for writing up the FIX "stuck gear selector on 8 speed trans" Well Done. It happened on my D4 2016 SDV6 HSE which I had since new and just getting it ready for my first big trip to Uluru in couple of months when the Rotary Gear Selector decided to stay on "D" permanently. Went to Bunnings last Saturday, I tried to park and the KNOB just won't turn to reverse, so I thought OK maybe it will RESET if I switch the engine OFF .So I parked on clear area accessible to tow truck just in case then I switched the ignition OFF, there you go SHE won't start again coz it's now stuck on Drive. I disconnected the battery, pull the emergency cable to NEUTRAL still nothing worked and finally I called NRMA, patrolman organised TILT TRAY took my Disco4 home, lucky only 5km away.

That's when I started GOOGLE and saw AULRO forum about TCS STUCK on Drive with Marc's Fix, except I purchased the unit LR090489 for $955.00 from a Dealer since I need the car this coming weekend. So,I printed Marc's PDF file and followed his instructions, step by step then installed the new unit, started Disco4 up then it worked. Had an engine warning though but after disconnecting the battery a few times, it went away. After that I had the module configured and updated ( apparently it has to be done) at the dealership and so far she's good.

Next step now is to get the faulty Gear shift selector and use it as spare.

Mine stuck in reverse.

The fix does involve pulling the TCS (Transmission Control Switch (aka the dial)) apart, so that will keep you happy. Ha Ha!

Mine intermittently played up a couple of months ago but came good, then sure enough the wife reversed out of the driveway the other day and it died completely. Stuck in reverse but i pulled the release and pushed it back onto our nature strip.

Ive a new TCS on order but i guess my question will be, what do you need too do when installing a new TCS? Do i need to set it to N first before power on?

I don't have a Nanocomm or anything to interrogate the car so will it just plug and play?
