    Retrofit Blind Spot Monitor (BSM)

Hi Disco Owner’s, done a search for retrofitting BSM - seems no one has done it in a D3 / D4.

Is it possible? Not here to get into the endless debates of “why? / adjust your mirrors bla bla..”

Want to know if it’s possible to swap mirrors and buy the modules to fit.
Or am I better off getting one of those fleabay kits?

Bsckground is I’m in the market for a D4 and deciding on what options can be retrofitted and what are must haves.

    cheers
    D

As a general rule it is not easy to fit any item that was not configured as the D3 or 4 was built. Each car has a Car Configuration File (CCF) that specifies what is configured. Some of these CCF lines can be edited and some of the item specific software modules can be updated to cater for configurable options that were not selected as the car was built. But it is not as simple as bolt on the new bit and update the file. You would need to possess a reasonable level of mechanical and electrical aptitude and be comfortable editing computer files and updating software modules. With a methodical approach and attention to detail, you may well be able to customise your car as many here have done. But be prepared for failure.
As you have yet to buy your D4, I would suggest taking the time to understand what options are must have and filter your selection criteria accordingly.
This forum is a great source of knowledge, so take the time to look around.
    Good luck.
And no, the fact that BSM is made available means that there is a market demand for it. So it is perfectly reasonable for you to want it along with any other option that takes your fancy.

The biggest issues is different harnesses are installed to the vehicles so not only would you have to deal with the above, you’ll be splicing into harnesses and making your own. Some add ons can are easy, others are a nightmare - adaptive cruise is one of those as an example.

Thanks DiscoJeffster & DieselLSE, very good points.

I am surprised how uncommon the $450 Option is, will keep searching for the right one.

I thought that was what this forum is all about, at least you could indulge us "flapping our gums" so to speak, while picking our brains. I have found a lot of good information comes out of conversation, not necessarily germane to the original topic.
