    Lower tailgate manual release

From another forum but thought I would share this simple fix for a stuck lower tailgate.
See that square recess in the first pic , put your finger in there and flick it upwards.
2nd pic shows the what you are moving , repeat opposite side and tailgate will now open.
Of course the top has to be open first.

It's so simple I couldn't believe it, so many post's of people destroying the trim to access the cable.

Thanks for the post and info. However it's harder to access when a cargo barrier is in place.

Yes but as said the upper one has to open first - its the upper one that fails with the actuator for the upper sitting in the lower gate. Why LR didnt put a same release for the upper tailgate in the side beats me, but that would have saved ripping into the lower trim to open a stuck upper tailgate...

Correct, but when travelling,i always keep one bag of tools just behind the drivers seat, with the correct tools to remove the bolts that hold the cargo barrier in place, without opening the tail gate.
At least if i can get those bolts out,i maybe be able to get the barrier partially out the way, unload some gear and access inside of tailgate set up.

I can undo my barrier from the front without tools , most times the top can be opened from the dash buttons.

Pushing both lock/unlock buttons simultaneously (D3) will open it if the tailgate switch fails.

If the motor in the lower tailgate fails then it does not matter where the electrical signal comes from, the motor will not pull the cable and the upper tailgate won't release so you won't be able to drop the lower tailgate.
