    Gearbox fault

    Hi guys,

2 times now have had a gearbox warning message flash up on the dash and the car go in to limp mode, turn the car off and then on and message goes away with the car returning to full operation.

    Any ideas?

    Cheers.

Yes. Get the codes read and report the outcome, else you have little chance of resolving.

Mine came up with that on the dash a year or so ago.Never seen the message before.
Low range wouldn't change gears at the time either.
The vehicle was actually in Low Range when the message came up.

Turned off and on,all good since.

I can't remember the codes, cleared them all and hasn't happened again.

From my limited, but realtime experience, and as previously noted in the D3/4 section elsewhere(s), this can be indicative of something completely other than the gearbox. For me it was the alternator on the way out at 250K (and then a front diff bearing, but I doubt that would be related).

Most of the time transmission faults don't register an error code which is a pita.

Mine loves to do that every time it's eaten a brake light switch. I keep a spare in the glovebox now

Ours (2011 D4) has done exactly that a number of times but seems to have settled down now at 165 k's. It always came good after stopping and restarting the engine, so we just ignored it - Land Rover character!
