    Oil in coolant

Looking At a cheap high mileage d3 with 2.7 diesel that's developed an issue with the engine oil getting in to the coolant I'm thinking it may be a oil cooler problem and a cheap easy fix is this common or do they have other faults with the same symptoms?

That is a reasonable diagnosis HOWEVER, if it’s not, you’re probably up for a new Ford Territory replacement engine.

Yeah I don't really want to go down that road on a 3k disco if I could be sure it's a common issue I'd jump at it and fix it

Sounds like MJRs $5k Disco project ha ha

    How high mileage?

That’s the logical theory but we are all dying to know if it works for you.

While you are doing that job you’d be blanking egrs and replacing the coolant junction on top of motor.

It's got 300 ish on the clock I'm going to have a look after work tomorrow and yeah blocking egr and replacing all the hoses will be a must now it's been contaminated owner says its recently had a radiator and cross over pipe replaced vac pump inter cooler hoses lower arms ect all the usual stuff. It could be a bargain or a disaster

Haha. I only just clicked on the overlapping threads of new D4 and old D3.

Good luck with it. Keep us informed.

Tread with caution, Most owners would have diagnosed the car and know exactly what it needs and are trying to cut their losses.
I doubt it will be an "easy fix' - but if you're up to the challange and can do the labour yourself, you can still save a packet.

    Do keep us informed!

My D3 has recently shown up some trace indications of coolant in my last handful of oil samples. Just currently shy of 330,000km on the donk. I've read a little around the traps about oil cooler failures, which seem to show up as oil in the coolant so I think Im looking at the beginnings of a likely head gasket issue.
