Thread: Compressor and water pump mounting...

Hi All,

I'm fitting out the back of the car. So far fitted a 68 ltr water tank (custom from Abbertanks), singe drawer and fridge slide. I'm at end of 'phase 1' which was to get above operating prior to a trip in Jan so it's a bit thrown together but conceptually it's all working- mental note to self though: "make sure outlet hose is out of car prior to switching on pump".....

Next phase is to tidy up install with carpet and fix fittings and switches etc permanently. And fit compressor (there will be two, as I have an ARB and a Blue Tongue from previous cars) and permanently mount water pump.

Now for the thoughts: Currently the water pump is sitting on the floor under the second row seats (third - seat 6 and 7 - removed for water tank) and was I thinking of mounting the compressors on one side and the pump on the other side. Using a piece of ply for a base that is held in by the seat mounting bolts (will need longer bolts) via a steel frame (or not, haven't looked too hard at this point)...I have thought of beside water tank under floor, but there's not much room and if something goes wrong with any of the pumps, I'd need to pull out all the crap above to access.

My main concern is water ingress when water crossing. I've done a number of water crossing in previous cars with out water coming in. However, I've not done very deep ones or been stuck (apart from in a work Hilux in a river out of Nhulunbuy, but another story....had to drive around in summer with the heater on for weeks...)

So I don't know whether it's a risk having this gear on the floor?

I was going to mention water crossings could stuff up the pumps etc until I read to the end of your blurb where you had thought of that. My guess is if you have water in the bottom of the car then you've probably got bigger issues to deal with at the time and if the under seat gear was cactus then do you have a way to manually pump or compress?

Thanks Rod, I think you're right, I've flooded the floor the pumps are the least of my problems....
