    We used to drive our 3.5 D1 3 door with 36" tyres in water over the bonnet..and very little water ever got in ...amazingly ...and it never failed us..thankfully. Won't be doing that in the D4.

    A bilge pump might be a good idea tho if you're expecting deep crossings. A relatives GU has one and it saved his car on the Tele track.

    Dear Harry, I am addressing you formally because I want you to take me seriously.

    i have done Cape York twice , and I know it sounds like fun, but don’t bother with Nolan’s Brook or any other mud/water crossing.

    just drive in ,have a look ,enjoy the drama ,and continue on your merry way.

    if you want a clean but still memorable drive , do the Bloomfield Track.

    Auto tranny ECU for D2 is under the passenger seat,many have been destroyed by water.

    Not a real smart place for it.

    I got the D2a badly bogged in a small creek just off the Jardine,the carpets in the vehicle were soaked,and we had a heap of small fish in the vehicle,but luckily due to the angle of the vehicle the water did not get into the auto ECU.

    Tirfor came in handy that day

    Thanks Dave - Noted.

    Having flooded a D3 before I vowed never to repeat that again - I will not be doing anything silly again.

    Anything deeper than about wheel height (with LLAMS fully extended) and I will most probably opt for the chicken tracks.

    Mid-door level will be above the EAS (Electronic Air Suspension) module, which is mounted in the driver's footwell under the panel just in front of the door, if any water got in the cab, of course. Not sure where water would get in first, the doors have double seals, perhaps the spare wheel winch winder grommet cover would pop off?

    It was always recommended that the large connector behind rear passenger side wheel was better sealed if deep water crossing.

    One my first trip August 1981, every creek and river except the Jardine ,had to be waded, no trouble for us in a 2wd F150.

    six years ago in D3, and 3t van,we only went to the old telegraph track for a look. I would not take a half decent vehicle into Nolan’s Brook but is a bit like visiting a boat ramp at Easter, quite amazing the things some people do!

    the development road we took in the D3 , well any sedan could do it easy.

    tis a nice area of the continent , we spent several weeks there, as opposed to working folk who only have 3 weeks holiday to drive from say Sydney , and rush up and back
