    D3 2.7 Acoustic cover questions

    Hi Everyone,

Two questions about the acoustic cover for the 2.7 in a D3:

What are the replacement rubber inserts that the posts push into? I only have two and two are missing.

Secondly, the cover is only sititng on the rear two posts, it would appear I'm missning the front two posts and the cover itself is just sitting on top of the front part of the engine... does anyone have a photo of where the post would be and what they look like as I'll need to order replacements for them as well.

    Thanks,

    Peter.

The left one (driver side) is mounted on a bracket that is screwed to the timing cover and other is a post that is screwed onto one of the valve cover studs.
I can get pics for you tomorrow.

Thanks, I'm keen to get it sorted out and not sure what to search to buy the missing parts.

Any idea on the rubber grommets in the engine acoustic over?

Have read they are not sold separately to the entire cover as I am also missing one. Shouldn’t be impossible to match or enquire with a wrecker.

Missing one creates no detectable problem.

Why you are missing the front posts is another question.

I think if you went to a Ford dealer you might get the grommets individually.

The engine was replaced by the seller prior to buying, I'd say the posts weren't put back on.

I'll run down my options with a wrecker.

Not having the posts is a bit of a concern as the cover is sitting flat on the engine and vibrations are wearing on softer rubber components.

I don't know how much difference the acoustic covers make to d3 but when I owned my d2 I turfed them.

    1. it didn't appear to make a scrap of difference to the sound or engine temperature on or off

    2. the number of times it had to come off for any one of a myriad of d2 minor under bonnet repairs it was better off in the shed.

It makes a noticeable difference to the nvh, I left mine off for a month after my repairs and it significantly quieter with it back on.

I broke a post when doing inlet manifolds on mine. Bought them genuine from the local dealer. They were Cheap enough I didn't think twice.
