Getting someone to do the job, would be well over $20K,so decisions need to made if it’s viable.

What is the vehicle worth, probably around $20 to $25K,less wholesale. And way less in a couple of years time.

It also depends on the owners own situation, financially and whatever else.
Complete rebuilt engines are ex-UK for around 8-9k Aus.

Body off, engine in say $3k

So do you reckon these guys would ship to Aus? Wonder what shipping cost would be?

That pricing would be great, just gotta find someone in Aus who can do similar work for similar pricing.

I think these tend to be on an exchange basis (hard if you are in Australia - might have to accept the surcharge).

But I think I would want a new / potentially enhanced camshaft regardless??

Another idea that was brought up in conversation (with my mum, whom some of you will know) was the potential to body swap my 2010 3.0 190kW tdv6 with a 2014 3.0tdv6 150kW(wreck)
of course there are some things which will potentially be road blocks i.e.8speed box shifting etc, plus many of the mods I’d like to keep would need to be changed over (or loose)

my initial thought is that it will cause too many problems, but then I think it is worth getting the feedback from the brains trust

That bottom engine from the 2014 into yours will result in you ending up with the higher engine you have anyway, as your ECU will be the deciding tune.

    Engine swap would be easiest.

And will do the job properly.

    Cheap isn’t always best.

A rebuild as in Tombie post would probably be best as they would have done quite a few,so should have good experience with them.

Then have it fitted by a good Indie.

I am having a deeper look into the engines in the discovery 4s, it seems that there is a 2.7 litre turbo diesel and 2 of 3.0 litre engines (190kW and 155kW). Are the 3.0 engines the same with a different tune, or is there different ancillaries - ie different turbo set up.

I currently own a 2010 d4 which I strongly suspect has seized (it has not made it to the workshop yet), the engine in mine is the 3.0 sequential turbo version 190kW.
I am trying to understand if a 2014 155kW 3.0 can be swapped with minimal fuss.
Also can the 2.7 litre be installed in place of my 3.0 or will that be a ECU setup nightmare?

Thanks for reading, your knowledge, suggestions and links to other threads and information are greatly appreciated.

Does anyone know if the 3.0 litre can be removed from the discovery 4 with the body still in place? Know of any write ups or videos?
