Errrrrrr yes with a small Kings light barKings light barV battery applied to the trigger wires + & - there was the smell of burning plastic from the region of the relay which briefly translated to the spotlights turning on. I think that’s not what it’s meant to do.

I confirm also the blue / slate is energised with high beam on testing at the plug.

You should have hooked the negative to the chassis and take a 12v feed from the main battery to test so that everything is at the same potential.

My interpretation is he used a separate battery. It seems the harness is a dud. Fortunately, Kings are very good with warranties.

I could hear fizzing yesterday because my head was inside the cabin flicking the switch but today supplying power at the trigger the melt down was in front of me with smell. Boiling hot to the touch it was cooking up under the big heat shrink wrap under the relay where all the wires terminate.

The spotties did activate briefly though Kings light bar

My guess is that they're probably using the same dud relays that bro had trouble with years ago when we installed a cheap Kings light bar to his Patrol.

Took some guesswork/tracing, so I replaced the no-name relay with a proper relay(probably Narva) i had spare, and ..... voila!

One of the reasons I have a collection of relays. I grab the original fitment ones every chance I get. Cheap ones are rubbish often. Can't carry the stated load.

Hmmm, well I fitted the identical kit and had no issue with their supplied relay, but maybe I got lucky.

Same, used the wiring kit when i first got the light bar for my D1. Moved to the D3 and cut the harness down and ditched the headlight connector.
Since i only ever use it with engine running i powered it off my aux battery and just use a switch without headlight trigger, i find that i use it more with low beam than high beam.

I think it's a bit of a lottery. [Like TDV6 crankshafts]. But quality relays often cost more than a cheap wiring kit.

To look and touch the whole thing is excellent. It’s not the relay which I think makes sense to upgrade in any case. It is a short in the wiring on the female side of the relay connector where all their terminations are. Something is touching something it should not be touching.

I’ll get another one as the same one in the 80 series been going for years no problem as well as the spotties showing no sign of deterioration.
