While we are on the subject of rebuilding hitachi's - does anyone have any current links to the full rebuild kits that have a new piston and barrel? They where available a few years ago but a recent search I didn't find them

Why would you go to an AMK when they are both as good as each other and with the Hitachi you can just buy a new compressor where with the AMK you have to get a fitting kit and then have a software update to get the most out of it.

No there are real ones to be had - a tad expensive but genuine AMK are also a bit light on the ground and even more expensive as many sellers try to flog off the copies.

What is wrong with your current one - I know you said it was recently rebuild so unless it has had a structural failure I would try a rebuild again. Rebuilding is generally successful - do you have the aluminium cap or the old plastic one as the plastic one is problematic. The exhaust valve is also an issue but in my case a good whack with a rubber mallet removed the crude that was stopping it from closing and all works OK.

On first starting the car for the past week the compressor ran for a few seconds and then I got a double message of Suspension Fault and Normal Height Only, but today it is Suspension Fault and now at access height with no compressor running. Probably didn’t help with a caravan on the back.

The other day for some reason upon starting the car it asked to select a height and when I selected normal it tried to go into extended mode, but it only stayed at Normal height and again came up with Suspension Fault.

Will get the codes read hopefully tomorrow as I don’t have an IID tool and start on the repairs. But I am thinking that now the compressor motor has stopped.

    cheers

I bought a good 2nd hand new cylinder and conrod with piston through Andrew at 4x4airseals who has a small stock.

You can find them on EBay also.

How it came up is I wanted to put a new big end bearing in but Andrew said they way they are crimped in makes this not possible.

In the end my big end bearing was perfect so I have a spare on hand just needing the piston seals done.

Had confirmation from the mechanics that the motor had failed on the Hitachi.

Have now had an AMK installed, as they had one in stock. So only a 7 hour turnaround from dropping off. Lucky for me they were waiting on parts for others vehicles so had a gap and squeezed it in or it was going to be a 2 week wait.

If I had an IID to confirm it was the compressor and time to wait for delivery of a new Hitachi I would have stuck with the same.

    cheers
