Bought the online version today. Beyond lightweight servicing it's not very impressive.

I thought it might have some good exploded view drawings and diagrams.

Had an informative visit from Loanrangie today who gave me some good tips, and convinced me that I need a Gap tool

Given what you are taking on this sounds like a good investment.

Keep posting updates - will be interesting to see how you get on with this project.

Not sure if anyone can light light on this but when ignition is switched on the entire dash lights up and hazards flash, used my gap tool to read and clear codes and then did a soft reset. Remaining codes are those that you'd expect with the vehicle being on its bump stops plus a couple of cascaded faults but nothing that would suggest a terminal error. the key fob is dead flat so wondering if this may be immobiliser related ?
Dave if you dont have luck with an inductive charger i have a USB one you can borrow to charge the key then see if a lock and unlock procedure helps.

Today I opened up the remote and checked the battery voltage, getting 3.1v. Next question is how do I verify that the remote is transmitting? The key blade on the remote fits in the lock, so I assume that it's correct for this vehicle. Multiple components - Instrument cluster, ABS module, ECU, TCM have been removed and interchanged with a second vehicle. The original instrument cluster has been reinstalled but I don't know the status of the other units.
Could there be an issue with loading of vehicle data on these units and can I expect to address these issues when my GAP tool arrives next week?

Swap back the ECU and TCM, i don't think the ABS will be an issue.

Having replaced the battery in the key fob I tried to verify that the fob transmits. Contacted a Land Rover agent who said that they would need the car and the key to check that the fob operates. The car is currently immobile! - so that wasn't an option.
Today I visited a locksmith in Eltham who, with a small device the size of a phone, verified that the key fob does transmit when the lock and unlock buttons are pressed. He also checked the chip type and operating system on the fob with another machine - all for free. This is something the Land Rover people told me couldn't be done.
This locksmith also offers a home visit service to synchronise the key fob to the car, cost about $215. I'm holding off on this as I hope that the gap tool can perform this function. The tool is scheduled for delivery this week.
A possibility could be that the unit which receives the fob signal has a fault. does anyone know which unit that is and where it's located?
Meanwhile it's time to do more reading to gain an understanding of all these systems.

Dave search for 3 wire splice on disco3 UK forum as i believe this sounds like the issue it causes.
